Got stuck in it at Pinneroo this afternoon,(seaweed) thinking, bloody cobblers, hope I don't get hit by one and lucky for me, no thank goodness.
As the saying goes, you will be all right when the pain goes
But hope its all OK and feeling for ya, nasty little bastards they are

You go to Joondalup emergency for a shot? if not head up there, but place heat bag on it til you get the shot, helps with the pain.

Whats a coobbler?

Should see the picture Ive painted.
Its got 3 heads, blue, yellow and green all with different sized razor sharp fangs and a big electric zapper thingie that homes in on kiters.
Am I close?

What ever it is you can add that to the list of things we dont have in Victoria.
That and wind

Don't think you have them in VIC. Based on the below, recon it is best to body drag through the weed in any case.

Cobbler — Cnidoglanis macrocephalus as the scientists call it — is a well-known fish species. They occur in the Swan River, Peel-Harvey and Leschenault estuaries, in the estuaries and coastal waters below the Houtman Abrolhos Islands and around the southern coast, in places such as Wilson Inlet.

To put it mildly, cobbler are curious critters for fish, making burrows in which they “nest” and bring up their young. For this reason, cobbler like relatively shallow water with a sandy bottom, where there is weed around to provide some cover for their burrows and for the young when they emerge from the nest.

The other less cute fact about cobbler is they have three barbed spines around the head. Unwary fishos sometimes step on them in shallow waters and receive a painful sting for their trouble.

Thanks for that Ned.

Yea, I was curious if you had to actually step on one to get stung, I guess not.

With seals jumping out of the water these days, one never knows what cobblers might be capable of.

Prob nothing I'm allergic to bees as well, I would describe the pain the same as the bee sing with constant pain of the initial sting for about 5-6 hours then all of a sudden it just goes. I'm sure it would be worse if you stood on em tho...

Nice description Gruezi, you are lucky Ned sounds like you did brush it perhaps on the side spikes mate.

I went beach fishing with a mate years ago, everything ready for a good night of fishing. Full esky of coldies, perfect weather and good company. Then my mate walked in the water for his first cast BANG cobbler straight in bottom of his foot not happy as your body weight forces all the poison available out throught the spike. Straight to hospital, 4 hours later and still in pain I took him home.

Don't think for one minute they only hang out in seaweed, they are in any shallow water especially around dusk onwards. When we where kids we would go with torches and gidgies in knee deep water wearing shoes and spear the bigger ones, bloody good eating.

TIP when walking in shallow water always shuffle your feet and don't take big steps. That way you will get a prick like Ned, still painful but unlikely you will need hospital depending on pain tolerance. Hotwater is the best pain relief, don't quote me but a professional fisherman once told me to put ya foot in petrol as thats better. (I said don't quote me and someone else may elaberate on that) IMO I'd use hot water.

No I'm just hardening the **** up, haha just joking I've only ever had one bad allergic reaction out of a few stings. When I was a young lad as well so maybe I grew out of it. I would be more worried about rays than bees
