Hey All,

Im looking for recommendations for a board purchase. Im new to kitesurfing but have wakeboarded before. On conversations with people ive met, a lot have recommended a Underground FLX 132.

Does anyone have an opinion/ words of wisdom?

Id probably prefer to get a 2nd hand board, but not necessary.

Weight about 75kg

cheers

Hey pOrno

There's no more boards (of the same sizes) now that are much better than the others, just about any board around 135/38cm are good, get your hands on a strong one. Underground and North boards are the best for that I think. Wake board style boards are also usually quite strong.

ok my 2c....I reckon for a beginner you can't go past the 04 or 05(if you want to spend a little more) airush switches, all sizes are great but dependant on your kite(s), weight, intended use and estimated speed of learning. I've just got a 32 flx after a 47 wavetray and its quite a bit skatier and still getting used to the change but love the feel, really light and responsive. But I rode a 135 04 switch recently and it was surprised at how nice it was, if I couldn't afford the new flx, as no one sells em 2nd hand , I would have bought one of those babies cheap. I reckon its a better beginners board too, with the concave the rail hung in a bit better so you should get going up wind on the switch easier. good luck

Don't forget about duty and customs fees! But I reckon you're still going to come in under. I think it's about 10% plus $50 for customs. I think you can check on the customs website?

The amount you will save isn't worth the drama; Freight, GST, etc. etc. If you fly out it's worth bringing stuff back - but USA to Aus via the internet the small saving isn't worth the risks.

It's worth supporting the local dealers as well, so that you can drop into a shop and get advise, ride demo gear and look at the actual products IMO

Why not poop into Airborne kitesurfing and grab a demo board each day till you find one you love, it costs you nothing and then you KNOW for yourself. Buying a board is the secong most personal decision in kiting (behind harness) , what one person raves about is crap to the next person and vice versa.

It is about feel and you are the only one that can decide that, don't believe the hype!

Second the FLX. Havent heard anyone who is unconnected with any brand say a bad thing about them. Smooth to ride, great handling, well built, light. Perfect board for me.

Main thing I liked bout it was the slicing through the water, rather than the slapping you get with some boards.

POrno,

If importing these goods, Customs will charge approx $110 plus 10% of whatever the seller charges for freight and insurance added together. So if shipping fees are say $80, then Customs will charge you $118AUD.

You can work this out for future quotes as 5% duty + 10% GST of goods including the duty and freight and insurance.

And that's if you are willing to lodge your own entry. If you get a broker to do it, expect another $50 or so.

But theoretically, it would still be cheaper to import.

Yeah, a mate has got an Addiction board, but its black and he has nearly lost it a few times as it can be hard to see in the water.
Wearing a leash from what ive read doesnt sound like a great idea.

Can you try an FLX or an addiction board from Airborne?

These different from the Airborne style of boards which seem heavier and floatier in my opinion. (Im sure plenty of people, espcially those connected with Airborne will disagree.) Another good board is the Kaos range, also locally built by Karl who is a real perfectionist with good after sales support.
