I have at present a Slingshot board which is 37cm wide at the centre and tapers down to 21cm wide at each end. It is 137cm long.
The problem I have is it is extremely hard to edge and go upwind without loosing speed or sinking. I am relatively new to the sport and have been persisting with the board in the hope I can master it but feel another board may be more suitable. I have no idea what board would suit me.I have a 6 foot 2 inch surfboard with straps which I have been using lately and have no problems going upwind on it I just can't jibe at the moment.
I weigh 75 kg and fly a sonic 11m.
Can anyone suggest a board which may suit or possibly a few tips on edging this type of board.

Some of the older boards had narrow tips, and a lot of rocker in the tips as well, which just makes them hard to push upwind and they also have no bottom end. You just had to ride them powered up.

I would suggest you look at boards like the following
2006 Underground FLX 1.32 or 1.42
2005 Underground FLX 1.32 or 1.42
Airush Decoy 1.42 or 1.35
Slingshot SX 1.37
Cabrinha Custom 1.33 or 1.38
North Jaime size L
North Dragon 2006 1.37
Naish 2006 Haze 1.37 or 1.45

I may have some of the sizes slightly wrong there are a lot of numbers to remember in kiteboarding these days!
All the above boards will go upwind easier than the old slingy you have. I've listed them in order of my preference, others will differ in opinion for sure. They also sell in that brand and size order in my shops.
There will be a lot of used Undergrounds coming on the market soon as people take up the new boards, so if you are on a budget snap up one of them.
All the above boards new prices are on my website, except 2006 undergrounds which will be up in a few days.

The Sligy boards are great I hear, and they look magic, it shoudln't be the board.

My guess is you're not riding in enough wind yet.

Either that or your fins might be too small, that can make it tough sometimes.

You might even be trying to edge too hard. I saw a guy at Nth side Woodies last weekend edging so hard he looked like he was dragging an anchor and was going super slow on every run he did. Very strange

Sounds like you either need to get out in more wind, or get a bigger kite.

Stick with it though, you'll nail it.
