Took my brand new glossy board out for a session in low tide today. Came home to find that 1/4 of the base finish feels like it's been rubbed off by sand paper and the other 3/4 is still slippery and shiny new. Know it's not a big deal AND that it's only going to get worse AND that I probably won't care after a few more sessions, BUT.... is there anything you can use to give it that 'just brought it home from the store' kind of feel?

You can buyt fibreglass cutting compound and polish, then use a wax like "Porzelack O" it will do the trick nicely.

It will also repel water which breaks surface friction and will get you planing with less effort. Rainex will do the same job

Have fun wid ya nu schtik!

I use some funky boat polish with silicone and UV retardents in it, it`s supposed to protect from UV and increase hull speed!

Is your board finished in glass or P-tex? If it`s P-tec, dont even try to polish it! You might be better off with some snowboard wax.

My board still gets scratched but at least it doesn`t get sunburnt, lol, can`t say that it goes any faster either.

if you wish to dredge a new shipping channel at your local kiting spot, then by all means go backwards and forwards in shallow water.
a certain amount of your board will also be left behind.
then polish your board nicely and repeat above procedure.
new shipping channel is only weeks away!

Well... I'm pretty sure there was some water there when I started No, I admit, probably not the best habit to get into. Tides much better next week.

buy a liquid force board instead of a dodgy crap one and you wont have the problem.
the paint and base dont wear off them....
but i guess they look all pretty in the showroom.

My new board is a LF Drop. It has something called a polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) base. From what I have read it sounds like fancy shiny durable plastic. Most of the scratches are fairly comestic, but it would be nice to give it a bit of a polish once in a while. I tried to chase down the Rainex and the other polish mentioned. No such luck. LOTS of places sell clearcoat car polish like Macquires, Turtle Wax, Kitty... . just didn't want to risk it. Went to a boat dealership and all they had was some fibreglass type polish. The thought of buying any of these and using them on my board made me nervous.
