I'm new to kiting, wondering what kind of boards other female riders are using? Do you stick to the boards made for females? I'm looking at getting a new board in a couple of weeks, (I'm 58kgs and 166cm tall) so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

hey missy, i ride a twin tip 128, naish pro board and i have a younger sister who is 50kgs and about ur height and we just bought her a misfit 120 airush board, you can choose to ride any board that is right for you, if your about 166cm tall, a board that sits just below your arm wen extended is about rite.
the misfit 120 is about 38 wide aswell so theres alot of surface area.. male/female boards do not really matter, but the ones designed for females are obviously better suited for women riders, but most women ride wateva men ride to behonest...
hope that helps cya out there

Hi Missy,
The following recommendations in board sizes presume that at 58kg you've bought a suitably sized kite to start off with, that being 8m-10m. You'd best look for a board between 135-145cm long and around 38cm-40cm wide. Width is really important because it gives you surface area which equates to stability. If you get something too narrow, which often (but not always) is the case as boards get shorter, you'll probably find it a bit tricky to keep your balance and the board will be less predictable. As you progress you'll probably find yourself on a board anywhere from 110cm-130cm long and 35cm-38cm wide. If you come from a solid background in board sports, especially wakeboarding, you could get a slightly more advanced board straight off. Consider doing the rounds of the shops for more advice and a visual of what the various board sizes look like. Also, there are some girl-specific boards around but you'll generally find most girls simply ride the smaller versions of mainstream boards. Again, as you progress, you can always consider a custom to get exactly what you want. Hope this helps,
Jess

take a look at the new liquid force line designed by nina heiberg.
they look sic.
they are short n pretty wide so should be somethin you could go to after a few lessons and a board you will never grow out of.
just one of many options.

depends on your budget. alot of girls like the 115 misfit by airush which is only $499 brand new with grab handle, g-10 fins wide straps etc but pro toy is probally the best all round board. come in a 119 127 and 137 and are just over a grand. also the new 05 x-pact 122 and 127 would be ideal . give airborne a call and speak to jess she rips on the water and can give you some female advice.

Missy & Kat,
I forgot to mention in the first post that the Misfit 120 is actually 41 wide, which is really wide for a board that size and a huge differenc to 38cm. Also the RRP for the Misfits 120 & 115 is currently $649. Glad you think I'm getting there Ryland, if only I learnt as fast as you boys...

I weigh 55kg and have the 115 Misfit... I absolutly love this board. it rips!!! I have also tried the 120 Misfit and it is just as awesome, probably better if your just starting out as it will get going a bit faster. I like it so much because it is light an small and pops out of the water easily.

Thanks for the suggestions and tips.

I'm from NSW and my local shops don't stock the boards you talk about. I am coming to Perth in Dec for bout 6 weeks, so I will have to check out the boards when I get there.

Missy,

The guys from Longreef should have the Misfit in stock if not they could have one in less than a week.

Give them a ring on 9971 0999 Collaroy or 9599 2814 Brighton le Sands.

Maybe see you in December.

Ian.

Your answer is a custom Underground 122 FLX

We have set up other boards for both guys and girls with specific dimensions to suit their needs.

You don't need to call anywhere else

Unless you are Nina Heinberg and have lost all your gear!

The price is easy too.
