Just returned from 10 days kiting in Cumbuco, Brazil.

Wind: Everyday started up around 930am til sunset. Average about 18 - 20kts, low day was around 16kts, high day was 26kts. (June is the start of their windy season), constant SE trade winds (side onshore).

Kites: Hired (spent a month travelling South America skiing in Chile & trekking in Andes so wasnt going to cart kites & boards all around with me) mainly used a 10m Core GTS, light wind day used a 12m. Being a Torch/Vegas user i found the 10m the choice of kite for me and on days when it was gusting mid to high 20's there was still plenty of depower left. I found the Core GTS to be a very stable and quick turning kite with loads of depower (well given i ride torch a lot more than im use to thats for sure) also relaunches very quickly.

Boards: Hired Core Deluxe Freeride 134 x 40. (im 80kg)

All gear was in top condition.

Plenty of open beaches with small chop and fresh water lagoons which are all about waist deep, sandy bottom and clean fresh water.

Accomodation:

stayed at Cumbuco Guest House

www.cumbuco-guesthouse.com/

Had a top floor ocean view double room (serviced daily) which was a great size with ensuite for the two of us it only costed about $45 per night which also included a huge cooked breakfast every morning where you had more food than you could consume and eggs etc cooked to order.

The Villa is about 50 mtrs from the beach so every morning you eat yourself stupid than walk to the beach, pump up and your off, you can downwind to the lagoons and catch a lift home in the arvo. Great place to stay with all ameneties required, Free Wi Fi and all the kite gear you would need ready to hire if required. Theres no need for air cond there as its not humid and is about 27 degree day and night with a cool SE wind everyday and at night to keep the temp down.

Plenty of cheap resteraunts in the town (village) of Cumbuco which was about a 5 min walk from the Villa to eat dinner, and 600ml ice cold beers cost about $2, so its not hard to spend the evenings drinking away on the beaches and enjoying cheap seafood dinners.

In summary great place to stay & kite, it was great this time of year because it wasnt busy at all and i mostly had the beaches & lagoons to myself during the week, Qantas is now flying frequently to South America so flights have come down in price we got a return flight from Melb to South America for $2300 for the both of us. Highly recconmend visiting.

hey Dave, How much was the gear to hire?
Are you looking at gettin a GTS now?
nice review m8
4 years ago I went to the south of brasil at the same time of year and the wind was much more on-off there. It was like clock work though, a day of east breeze then 2 days of east swell then a day of south wind and 2days of south swell. I was there right through the winter and it went like that all the way-like clockwork, it was amazing to be there, but better for surfing than kiting.

Mate gear hire, for kite, board & harness was about $45 AUD per day, and they had a lot of kites so there was no problem with me taking out 3 kites a day just to cover any wind ranges but was only charged for one, where i stayed they also had surf boards (strapped & unstrapped). The gear was brand new as the owner basically starts the season off with new gear every year. I was very happy with the Core GTS and it was a pleasure to use thats for sure it was a nice change being able to actually just let the bar out to absorb gusts rather than edging like a MF on the C's i use i was certainetly able to progress a lot quicker and had a few lessons whilst i was there.
