Just to let all you guys know (although i'm sure most of you do already) that there have been a large number of car break ins along the Leighton parking bays. Today I was unlucky enough to lose my jeans, wallet and a few other bits and pieces. All my stuff was hidden under the seats and my friend who had nothing worth stealing at all also had his car broken into. Several others had also had their cars broken into.

I know that this has been on the message board before but I thought I'd re-iterate as personally I'd obviously got a bit lazy.

Told the local police but I'm not sure anything is gonna change.

F@@king annoying eh?

From an old post on this same subject. Maybe worth calling the Inspector mentioned below. Enough complaining may result in the security cameras they talk about...

Also if you can be bothered an email to Jim McGinty (local Freo member) wouldn't hurt either [email protected]
mailto:

Thankyou for you correspondence ...

Similar correspondence has been received by Police from a number of people who appear to be affliated with WAKSA who have initiated a campaign to better protect their vehicles whilst enjoying their chosen sport.

The areas raised that appear of concern are Leighton Beach, Woodman's Point, Scarborough, Cottesloe and Pinaroo.

South Metropolitan Police District has been aware of the problem being experienced by kite surfers and as such has initiated convert operations at Leighton Beach and Woodman's Point aimed at apprehending those responsible. More regular patrols have also been initiated aimed at detering those involved.

Policing Districts along the coast have been contacted and have prioritised patrolling of identified trouble spots.

I have instructed our Crime Prevention Unit to attend Leighton Beach to review signage placed within the car park outlining the "Look, Lock, Leave" philosophy.

A review of the crime trends will be undertaken to assess the impact these measures are having with a view to implementing further initiatives, including the use of surveillance cameras, if the need arises.

I trust the information provided clarifies the position however if you have any further concerns Inspector Gary Budge can be contacted direct at the Fremantle Police Complex on 9430 1295.

Yours Sincerely

FJ Brandham
District Superintendent

Sorry to hear about your stuff.I've been done twice this year. The only thing I can do now is empty my car of everything of value, leave the windows down, doors unlocked, wear clothes that are so ratty they're welcome to steal.Won't work for everyone but at least I can take all my kite gear to the beach, relax in the fact the buggers won't have to put screwdrivers thru my locks & smash the windows just to see if there's anything worth ripping off.As I said probably wont work for everyone but is the only thing I can think of.
Any other ideas?

I wonder if that has got anything to do with why some people kite south of the foot bridge and break the rules so their car has some chance of staying in one piece. Atleast if you park by the kiosk the people working there can see if any little angels take a liking to your windows.
