Just trying to see if there is much interest around for a Brisbane comp at the end of the year/begining of next year. Maybe try and set up a few, in conjunction with coconet or its extreme and start a queensland titles, similar to the wakeboard states.

I think a grommet comp would be of interest. KBM should be interested in that...talk to KBM and ask for some help for a grom kite event.

Yeah id do it, and id be willing to help out with the grommie comp, i know at least 6-8 kids/teens at brighton (not including me) would probly do it... then theres the noosa guys and goldy kids... Brighton, wello and the pool are all too small for a decent comp tho... it would have to be at Suttons...

Rhys if you tell them about it and find out if they're keen ill talk to KBM myself. I have heard from KBM already that they may be interested in a grom event. I feel that their readership may consist of a vast majority of 'mature' readers.

Suttons Beach was one of the beaches that we where thinking of, anywhere that there are good facilities for spectators and plenty of room for kiters. Still just a thought but at least it sounds like there are a few people interested.

I agree wind1. There's no real point having an event if there arn't many facilities. Most events are on to make money and to make money or get exposure for sponsors you need people. Suttons has easy access and all the facilities - carparking, amenities, shops, bike paths a SLSC and you dont have to walk far to get to the water. It's not too far out of Brisbane. I imagine that a 14yo Grom with no license may have trouble getting to places like Noosa. I know the local council would be keen on the idea and it'd give the local SLSC SOMETHING to do. I wonder what the skydivers will think? Nevertheless Suttons is a good starting point.

I think the comp would be better at Caloundra Passage or the Goldie Shearwater for suitability, tourism info and local amenities.
Suttons is too restricted for space and other beach users, is only good in side shore wind, and more often than not has choppy water and numerous rocks and bommies to contend with.
The other suggestion would be Brighton at low tide.

The other alternative would be to run the Brisbane one at the pool if it was mowed and tidied up and if anyone from the goldy or sunny coasts where keen maybe try and arrange 3 smaller comps. Form a commitee and have a Brissy,Sunny Coast and Goldy Comp, theres enough shops and schools around that I'm sure something could be arranged and it's a good way to promote the sport.

Um...how exactly big is this going to be Kurt? I didnt' think this comp was going to be really big? Wouldn't you want to start with something small and fun to run as a pilot for the next big one?
Spoke to KBM again they're keen but want a point of contact of who is running the show?

you brizzos need a leader.

Even a small one would be min. 30 kiters. I guess it depends on the comp details - let's face it there aren't many paul jackson's or ryan griffiths around to have a high level event.
Ian, trouble is with a leader - always comes opposition.
I have been invovled with a few sporting clubs for different sports
over the years, and unfortunately none of them have been pleasant, interesting or rewarding experiences. Always ends up a blend of personalities, politics, paperwork and rebels.
Wouldn't a comp idea run better if was done by an identity like a shop or school with the only stipulation being aksa membership? I'm just guessing here. Then we could all have a good selection of events to enter or spectate.
Anyhow - just thinking out aloud. Keen to hear everyone elses take on it.
I am going to organise a few social events this season thru Brisbane Kiteboarding, mainly aimed at social riding, nice locations and prizes and giveaways. There will be no stipulations on gender, kiting style or memberships of any organisation or club.

kurt i know there are better places around then suttons i just though that building some kind of rapport with our local council would be a wise investment for our future.

Then I think your boss should get more involved...
I can see problems with using Queens/Suttons/Woody etc due to the risks and space that's all. Wouldn't want premature restrictions to start (allthough they are inevitable imo - it's going to happen regardless)
Maybe get rid of those petrol head idiots at Pelican Park one weekend and do it there at low tide?
You could also tee up a buggy demo day which might help with those underprivelaged land based kiters and also help with your employer's access issues.
