Totally agree with you Kurt. Leave the politics out lol.

We should organise social events to enjoy the sport, get sponsors to throw in a few beers and some sausages each time. Run it like a monthly or even fortnightly event, gear swap, 2nd hand market, demos.....

Even a small one would be min. 30 kiters. I guess it depends on the comp details - let's face it there aren't many paul jackson's or ryan griffiths around to have a high level event.

Ian, trouble is with a leader - always comes opposition.

I have been invovled with a few sporting clubs for different sports
over the years, and unfortunately none of them have been pleasant, interesting or rewarding experiences. Always ends up a blend of personalities, politics, paperwork and rebels.
Wouldn't a comp idea run better if was done by an identity like a shop or school with the only stipulation being aksa membership? I'm just guessing here. Then we could all have a good selection of events to enter or spectate.
Anyhow - just thinking out aloud. Keen to hear everyone elses take on it.

I am going to organise a few social events this season thru Brisbane Kiteboarding, mainly aimed at social riding, nice locations and prizes and giveaways. There will be no stipulations on gender, kiting style or memberships of any organisation or club.

Don't get to excited yet guys, there is still alot that needs to be organised before anything can happen. I am in the process of arranging something but these things take time. I am hoping to have something arranged around late January but like I said there is still lots to do. If there is anyone who would like to help in any way it would be much appreciated, you can call me on 0439718865 or my details are on my website. Cheers

Guys.. try hooking in with the councils 'festival of sails' around easter time. You will find it easier for funds and sponsorship as well as promotional assistance thru the Redcliffe council and chamber of commerse etc...could even extend to a three or four day event, with a down winder to kick off the event (eg. SE Brighton to Sutts or NE Bribie to Sutts ) just a though. As I run my own business I would be more likely to sponsor an event over a few days rather than a one off. Remember..event sponsors want a return too, and it takes cash build a good foundation for the future of this concept and local organised kiting in general. Don't forget Dept of Transport permits for organised water events... so you don't turn up on the day and find that the local sailing club or sand castle builders have a permit and use of the water and waterfront.

No, Briskites used ot have a slider but its whereabouts is unknown, the council now owns a 10m dragontail slider of mine and our kicker was dimsmantled to make the dragontail...
Theres currently an insane Kicker sitting in the industrial estate made for jetski's and floats etc that we may be able to borrow/buy for the event, but seeing we dont know anything about any event we have nothing but the chop at the moment...

don't get excited guys there is no comp or event at the moment, until I can talk with the councils and with the election just gone they are too busy to care I think, I'll let you know if anything is going to happen.

Cheers Leigh
