Hi guys I'm going to broome for a couple of weeks from Sept 12th. Can anyone recommend places to stay. I'll be on a budget and have no transport either. I was thinking about staying at the cable beach backpackers but am not too sure about leaving all my gear in a dorm room??

If anyone else is around at that time it'd be cool to meet up too.

Cheers

Best kiting is town beach in the morning Easterlies - long walk from Cable but there are buses. There's heaps of backpackers up there and most seem pretty good value. See http://www.broomecam.com/camera.htm for contacts. If you meet up with some locals I'm sure they'll take you on a 4WD run up to the creek - just watch out for the crocs and sharks :-)

Why drive past Gero, Port Gregory, Denham, Gnarloo & Exmouth to get to Broome (to name a few !)

I have stayed in the Broometime lodge on occasion - prices are very reasonable and you can have a room to yourself / share with 1 or 2 or 3 people.

There was also a nice place around the corner called "The Satay Hut" which did some pretty decent food (and beverages).

The Kimberly Klub is also meant to be pretty reasonable, and it is well located between town, Town Beach and Cable Beach, on a major road with plenty of buses coming past regularly.

There's no such thing as sharks

You could also try 'The Last Resort' backpackers with the lot & from memory fairly cheap.

I made a last minute decision to head to Broome this weekend - It is $25/night at Kimberleyklub if you are prepared to stay in a 4 person dorm. http://kimberleyklub.com/ The photos make the place look quite nice.

Ian, do you think I'll get much wind up there? I've got a 9M and a 12M - is there any point in taking up the 9M?

I know this is the wrong forum, but does anyone have a travel bag they want to sell?

In my memory (which has a few gaps in it - Broome has a good nightlife) I don't think the wind has ever gone over 20kts (except with the cyclones), I don't think you'll need the 9. Unless you're 40kg or less. The Bureau readings up there are pretty accurate, www.bom.gov.au/products/IDW65029/IDW65029.94203.shtml , and in my experience the best time for kiting there is October/November and a couple of weeks either side, so not quite yet, but don't take my word for it.

Gone for the Kimberly Klub too. Looks quite good. All I'll need to do now is keep fingers crossed there will be some wind or if not a dorm full of fit swedish backpackers
