We've had crap wind for a month... since christmas. Look at www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/qld_last30.asp its the closest city with 30 day chart...

Byron has had less wind than that. Less than 10knots, except for a couple of days with between 10-15 knots.

And easterlies. There is nowhere to kite in Byron in an easterly, unless you like it straight onshore.

Wait a while until you see more frequent northerly seabreezes showing on the charts.

If you want to kite now, bring your biggest kite. I have a 10m and 15m, but have kited maybe 2 times in the past month.

The replies to this post are conflicting, but my experience is that NE and SE work there, but you cannot kitesurf at the main baeach are too crowded. There are good spots a few klms either side of Byron.

Alex is a helpful and enthusiastic guy for sure, but his advice, if it is till true about learning to jump on the beach sucks, if you want to jump get in the water, its the only place for jumping IMO.
You will notice Alex walks with a limp now, like a lot of other people who have done a lot of beach jumping, or kitesurfing too close to shore in onshore winds.

The beach can be used for buggying and kite landboarding, but not beaches that are crowded with people, which rules out a lot of beach in and near Byron.

Alex tends to kite in crowded places, for reasons I just cannot accept or understand, he sets a very poor example to new kiters and tends to get local kitesurfers and non kiting locals upset, because his actions have put some great spots at risk of being banned.

Respect the rights of other beach users, always kite on land in sensible uncrowded locations, don't jump on land.
