Hey All,
Newbie looking to get my first kite. Thinking of either a Cab SB or Ozone Instinct.
Have flown C's during lessons, bowing to the bow kite to try and give myself a chance...jokes
Any thoughts, pro/cons would be much appreciated.
Thinking of backing it up with FLX 152.....
95kgs: 12m SB or 13m Instinct ????

Hey Cabron!
I don't think you'll find many people that have flown the ozone insinct, it's only just been released, I'd love to try one, reckon they look very well designed.
Thought I should just suggest the traditional newbie move, secondhand. You're going to trash your first kite. Seems there's a lot of bow kites, some only a few months old, in the for sale pages. You're on the right track, maybe also consider Sonic or SS TD.
If you don't mind spending the $ the Ozone and Underground would be awesome.

Hi, to save my fingers from bleeding check out this post regarding my experiance and other users thoughts on the sb.....

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18109

It's a fair bit of dribble, but hope it helps you out a little , also helps to use the search function and type in switchblade or ozone instinct and see if anything comes up, worth a try anyhow.

Thanks Tobes

I had a look at the SS TD didn't know whether it was to advanced for a newbie, I thought it compared to the X-bow (higher bar pressure/a little less stable/ higher performance). The Sonic looks good, gets quite a rap on many of the forums...... I couldn't see a shop that stocked them in sydney though...any ideas? Like the idea of no pulleys at the bar.

Other people who have tried the Ozone apparently like it...to each his own...I think the SB is in a completely different league. Fly them both and make the call.

Of course i am personally biased towards Cabrinha...
and the only time i tried the instinct was a pre production model in rubish wind with the wrong size (plus it wasn't tuned right i think)
I know people who swear by both of them.
These days most Companies on the market have sorted out how to make a good kite... now it just comes down to personally preferrance. Again give them both a fly before you buy...good shops will have demos of both. Rich

I learnt on some C kites and was having nothing but hassle, then got a SB 12M and FLX42 and now I can kite :) I am 100kg and am already finding the FLX42 a bit big for me on a powered up day now i can ride. I tried a few bows and I found the switchie was heaps better than others I tried, they don't all fly the same. To me the SB is easy to fly, plenty of grunt and has huge wind range. I love the responsive feel from the bar. I got mine second hand for a bargain price. I am now learning to ride in the surf and to skim-kite and starting jumping.

Anyone flown a sonic or heard about them.....
It looks like I will be, yet another SB teabag getting dragged around boat harbour....

If you are going to pay full price then you should really take a look at Cahbrinas latest kite, the Contra. It handles like the SB but has even more power in the turns and is onepump which you will love. Also the bar is third gen for them and is cleaner and better laid out.
If you can find a SB on sale or used then go for it but if you are going to pay full price then go for the latest gen of Bow kites.

At the mo I am in the process of changing the bar setup as I find it cumbersome to set the trim on the fly.
Basically the trim cleat is reversed to the opposite end where the bridle lines connect to the chicken loop rope. This makes it possible to reverse the cleat so trim can be easily done by pulling toward you similar to a normal strap type depower/trim setter.
Got a couple of pics and destructions on how to do it from kiteforum.
I have a great time on my 11m and the depower really suits wave style riding. It's a mission getting it to go in light winds 10knts and you have to work it hard but a 14m would fix this problem I suppose. So good at handleing gusts as well. Took me a while to get used to it after flying C kites as you have to fly it sheeted out to get the full use of the power band as opposed to sheeting in on the C type. After the enitial confusion wares off it's all go and loads of fun. Flys similar to a PL Venom in my opinion.
Give one a try first to see if it suits your style. They're not to everybodies taste.
Que tengas buena Kiteboarding hombre

Hey Silviu, no wind here either.

Who cares what kite you fly but you. All kites fly these days, some are different to others, but everyone eventually learns what makes their own kite hum.

It's nice to be able to afford the best new gear when starting out, good luck and have fun Cabron.

Hey Buzz,
Been out a couple times, Kites great, just the pilot needs some work. As I have only flown C's before, during lessons, I'm probaly not the best one to ask as far as performance. It did invert on me once, however at the time, I f--d up and parked it in a shore break and probaly didn't have enough pressure in the bladder, so i'm blaming pilot error. I am going to start setting my leash to the front line so I can flag it completely, presently I have it just above the donkey, as even when the kites fully de-powered, pass the stopper ball, the kite still powered up, thats when it launched inverted and it...we.... ended up in the dunes only to find a branch/ stick from a tree they died in the 1930's through the wing tip...bugger...
