Recently aquired a Cabrinha CO2 2002 12 metre Kite. (First Time Kite Surfer) Have pull it all out and its seems that the Steering Lines are missing (The lines which attacht to the kite itself) I got the kite for free so I would like to know if it is worth sourcing the spares parts (if possible) or buying a more update one. Just enjoy having a play around on the weekend with it. Feedback welcome.

Mate before the Flaming begins please go out and use that money saved on getting a free kite to go and get professional lessons. It is a very dangerous sport if you don't know what you are doing, and the CO2 you plan to learn on has out of date safety systems that can get you in alot of trouble if you dont get it right... i Don't by any means mean to discourage you but lessons are a necessity.

But to answer your questions,,, Best getting more up to date gear. The kite you plan on flying is a "C" kite design and these days that design is used by experianced riders only. Newer kites like Hybrid and Bow kites have apparent 100% depower making the learning curve much faster.

I Learnt on this kite when it was new, there is a reason that it is free, put that **** in the bin. If your serious about the sport you can pick up a very decent kite with lines for around 600$, harness for 150$ board for 300$ and some lessons (prices vary).

The 2002 CO2 originally came as a 2 line kite, you may have to mod it to make it four lines. Even then for a beginner making sure the safety works will just not be worth the effort. This kite is very grunty and does not have much depower, stay away. Look for something 2006 or newer if your serious.

More importantly, Ben McCarthy what are you doing with my name?

Even more curious- I learnt on that kite. Are you me from the past? Has the Hadron Atom Smasher torn a black hole in the space-time continuum? Ohhhhnooooo. Why me?

Ditto - lex123. I don't want to see a new kiter carried into my workplace (hospital).

Hi BRMCCART,

The CO2 was a piece of crap when it was new in 2002, it hasn't gotten any better.

Lose the kite and get an instructor. He can at least look at the kite for you and show you where to dispose of it

Seriously though, don't attempt to fly that kite without the closest attention of an experienced Instructor.

Good luck and welcome to the sport

Good winds,
