Been thinking about where to go to blow off the winter blues?
I've been to North Queensland for the last 2 years, and I'm happy to tell you that unless you can muster the $$'s to get out to the reef you're wasting your time. The Cairns coast has wind for sure, but the water is about as attractive as my toilet after a night on the curry. Add to that that its starboard tack and choppy..why would you bother? Beyond the negs, there is actually a big kite scene at Yorkies Knob (say's it all really), with instructors and a shop. If you're a wake board type you might even have a half reasonable time. Why not stay there while you're at it........joking.
As far as the reef goes......hard to beat. Perfect quality water and cross winds. But serious money......think about cutting up a brand new kite every 5 days and you're about there.
