Hey Darwinians, I’m seriously considering a move to Darwin for one of my 6 month work postings. Most importantly what is kiting like??? What is the kiting crew(s) like? Do u sit down for a beer at the end of the evening together? What is Darwin like to live in?? What is rent like?? (availability and costs) etc etc. PM me please

Cheers, Missy

Beer is a big part of the local kite boarding crew in Darwin. As long as you drink Heineken, you'll be sweet. Darwin is a great place if you like drinking, camping or fishing. You can pretty easily find a ride behind a boat down at on of the two dams we have (Manton Dam) when the wind isn't on. Wind is SE tradies at the moment, some days are good, most windy days are gusty.

Only being 19 I dont personally know what rent is like, but everyone says its expensive compared to the rest of Australia

"do you sit down for a beer at the end" is an understatement ... we sit down before ... during ... and especially after a kite, for a few beers.

We're a harmless bunch and life is good but the rent aint so friendly (not sure 'cause I haven't rented for many years) and we get wind all year round with tropical temps that can't be beat in winter.

seeya,

Robbie

G'day again,

Depending upon what you like but the best times of year are June/July in the dry Season which usually is flat/choppy water, and Jan/Feb we get the Wet Season with waves. We hardly see crocs where we kite and the stingers in the wet are far worse but easily handled with wearing stinger suits. We hardly see any sharks but thats not saying that they are there.

For a 6 month stint, there are far worse places!!!

cheers for now,

Robbie
