When I pulled into the carpark today and parked where a lot of kiters park at the North end of the main carpark near Tom Simpson Park Mullaloo, I noticed a Black or very dark commodore SS sedan (VT I think) that looked a bit suss as it was parked down that end but closer to the road and on the other side of the island facing the kiters cars (there was heaps of empty bays much closer to the beach). The drivers door was open but there was only one person in the car sitting in the back seat, something just didn't look right so I made sure the guy in the back saw me staring at him and made it obvious that I was writing down the rego number 1CMB 741, I had a good look around but didn't see anyone else so didn't think to much more about it and went for a kite.
I found out later in the day that my friend and fellow kiter Cristiana had her van broken into and various goods stolen, I am a bit pissed that I didn't have a better look around because I think they may have been in her van hiding as I walked past.
I don't know for sure that this car had anything to do with the break-in and they could be perfectly innocent but I suspect that it was involved and at the time was suspicious enough to write down the details, so keep your eyes out for the above car this summer as today was one of the first good breezes of the season and they are already at it...... Thieving scumbags.

They're all fricken scum bags but what can you do. The councils don't give a S@#t and the cops don't have ther man power to do anything so you might as well give them your keys.
I leave a note on my dash board saying that I'm aware of the theiving activity and have left nothing worth stealing in the car so if you don't mind not smashing my windows that would be appreciated.

Cheers

I remember reading about a guy who was sick of ppl breaking into his van (mainly the cost of replacing the broken window) so he put a note on the dashboard saying much the same thing. Woke up one morning to find his van with a smashed in window and note from the thieves saying 'Just checking'.

taking photos of suspicios activity might be worthwhile, if not as a deterrent, then to the police in identifying thieves ?

You know we've got surf cams on most of the major spots in Perth why can't we as rate payers foward to our local shires to also get cams in the main carparks of our beaches as this ****e is just getting worse anyway so why not help the issue what are our rates, our rego costs etc etc come on approach your local council rep and see what they say??
Just an idea.

Why not set a trap, fill a van with heaps of goodies and a few sod off out the back on the kites while the others wait with baseball bats in the long grass! ha ha ha

Just kidding, but someone with cameras/ police / anything............it definately sucks being out the back if youve got your car on your mind.

Better park closer to the surf club, or up on the street, its sad, but its better to get a parking ticket from the cops, than to wait till they catch the thieves, had my bag and pump stolen twice off the beach in the last few months, So the vermin comes on foot, on pushbikes in cars all ages, out to steal our gear.

I have a mate who (quite illegally) rigged up a TASER to his door handle, cause seriously only you should be using that, anyone else is setting themselves up for 100,000 Volts rushing through their systems. You can find plans on the net to step down the amperage of your car battery and make an incomplete circuit on the door handle. This way if someone unwittingly opens the door they will get quite a jolt. but again its pretty illegal.

doing anything to provoke these kinds of people would probably result in your car being trashed, smashed windows, keyed but with whatever they find sharp, dented and so forth , its not really worth the effort to give someone a little shock, even if it does put them on their ass for a few seconds.

i do like the idea of the spiked bottle of liquor as that wont kick in until later when they are "enjoying their spoils"

unless your there to catch them and pound the crap out of them, which has its own dangers and legalities then your best not to do much except, record, report and as has been mentioned, petition the shire for some security cameras in the car parks.

I hate thieves! Low life of our community.

We have it over here as well.

A few wks ago a heap of us local kiters were pumping our kites up on the local grassy area and i looked across to the car park and noticed one car had a smashed passenger window. We all walked over to have a look, and yep smashed glass everywhere on pavement.
The lady owner of the car walked over and she told us it happened about 5min ago. She had left her handbag on the passenger seat in full view! She went to check out the beach and had only been away from her car for 3min.

We didn't even hear of see anything and we were all 30m away! They are so stealth and are very good at what they do. We all went and searched the area for her bag or evidence.

The local surf club even had a video camera pointing over the car park but they didn't seem interested in helping her out at all .

After calling the police we discovered the thieves had done the same 2 car parks down about 1 hr before this one.

So now we are the local car park security, we watch everything that goes on and tell each other.

Hi guys,

I aint saying take the law into your own hands but these are the facts. A low life litte scumbag off his dial from sniffing petrol was caught by one of the locals at Pinnaroo rifling through the glove box of a car in the car park.

He apprehended the culprit and was going to give him a flogging but instead felt sorry and just called the police who came along and took over ...... and let him go. Just like that!

Their reasoning was it is not viable to bring him to justice because it is a petty crime, he'll be given a talking to by the judge and sent home with a minor reprimand. This is why the crims are so brazen, there is no punishment!

The courts wont do anthing, so the cops are annoyed at being called out to these crimes they can do nothing about. We lose on every level. A solid beating from a big copper "back in the day" would have sorted this issue out. When we had real cops.

I'm sure if we all observed someone beating one of these little creeps to within an inch of his miserable life, we would all witness nothing or suffer convenient amnesia.

It's a lovely world we live in when traffic violations are treated more sternly than theft and B and E.

Good winds,

The best thing is to probably leave the car as "unattractive" (to the crooks) as possible.
Either have it really really neat and tidy inside, so they can see nothing (i recon they'd go for 2bucks on the seat, it costs them nothing to break it).
Or have the car a complete tip. With rubbish and food wrappers everywhere. I think the clean option would work better, but its hard to keep the car clean.

I am planning on storing everything in the boot, and cutting/disabling the level in the car to open it. Then they would need to find the key, and open the boot. Or climb through the tiny hole between the rear seats. But it would make them take longer, and think they are unlikely to go around searching for a key just to open the boot.

Has anyone tried/thought of plastic windows? So they don't break. Now that would be funny watching a thief trying to smash through that.

I got a soft top sierra and surprisingly only had it broken into twice in the last 3 years, i keep mine on the messy side, and it adds as a bonus to hiding things and being a soft top means no broken windows. however if they ever find anything of value in there i'll give them the keys, cos i dont keep nothing more valuable than an empty bottle of beer

Plastic windows are illegal. If you crash, they cant break them to get you out.

The boot lock idea is a bit backwards, but for this reason. Its faster and quieter to break into the lock on a car than it is to break into the car and pop it from inside. Better idea is leave the cable, and get rid of the lock!

On this point, as I'm gonna start being a regular kiter down at Mullaloo perhaps we could all chip in some $$ and get some kite gear lockers installed at the surf club or something. Whaddaya reckon?

!!! Cristiana, that sucks !!!

I have had everything valuable I own stolen 3 times from a van I lived in and loads of my stuff ripped more times than I can remember.

Stealing stuff should be made a bad idea. Cwamit has the best idea.

It looks like you guys are going to have to take the law into your own hands .
Perhaps you could turn them against each other .they are looking for coin right? or something thay can pawn .Next time you see the black statesman or the red camaray go up and say g'day and ask em if they wanna earn some serious coin .All they have to do is sit there and watch the car park for theives .All they have to do is kneecap the mongrel (with cricket bat supplied) who is also their competitor .if the cops come along and ask whats going on all they have to say ' jist playin some cricket sir".Get waksa and the local riders to chip in some coin.Don't worry you are doing a public service by giving these guys gainfull employment and providing a detterent for theives or get one of those NRMA insurance cars that looks after itself

Down at Leighton today for a kite with a mate, we get done and head to the car park only to find his window smashed, wallet, ipod, phone all gone the little punks. I think the only reason that my ute wasn't hit too is it's super spotless inside, not even any change left visible in the cab.

The REAL kicker though, is when he called the cops he was told "we're really busy today, give me a number you can be reached on and we will call you back". Then when he told the cop where it happened the response was something like "Oh, yeah, well that just happens all the time there" with a tone (it was on loudspeaker) implying (what do you expect if you park there?)

THIS IS BU****IT. These little pr**ks need thier necks wrung.

What is the council and the newspaper (local ) position on this .I have suggested before that you guys should be asking waksa to help you ruffle some feathers (along with surf clubs as well ) .Has anyone spoken to WAKSA about this ?
If you sit back and do nothing or just do your complaining here nothing will change and the mongrels will continue to trash your cars and pinch your stuff

Thanks for the idea float, will email WAKSA for starters, as I am a member and then onto the councils. Definately the most constructive thing that can be done given the situation.

If we can round up a few well spoken people from each group being affected by the break-ins(eg. surfers, windsurfers, kiters, normal beachgoers) then I'm pretty sure "A Current Affair" would love this sort of thing, eg. government is doing nothing about assuring the protection of our property Australia wide...something needs to change its a joke, the "security" patrol cars I see around my streets all the time need to be permanently based on the coast checkign car parks.

Thanks
Matt
