Hi all,

Wanting to support the local board makers, I searched and stumbled on cardboard in Australia.

has anyone riden them back to back or on it's own (cardboard)and can give me an objective opinion on them.

I'm was initially looking at getting the 142 FLX as a light wind board
as well as the 132 FLX as an all round board.

Apparently cardboards have been making boards for themselves as well as others (does anyone know who) with Concave for a while. whereas Underground will be bringing out concave soon in their next prod of the FLX range.

How do the boards compare as I have ridden the FLX but cannot ride the cardboard as there are no demos in Sydney.

Are there any pros and cons of either boards?

Your opinions are greatly appreciated

cardboards have a small concave but I have heard they are very good!

They manufacture for a couple of kite brands I think Wipika and possibly catapult buut don't quote me - only a guess.

Thinking of getting one myself

Well as fate would have it I lost my FLX 132 tonight. After checking out this website all during the day I go and lose my current board. Must be some weird destiny thing.

Sometimes I think this sport is akin to throwing great wads of cash into the water but nevertheless I may look at picking up myself a 128 cardboard.

Hi. after checking out the site I contacted the manufacturers and they will accept your own PERSONAL custom graphics if supplied in the correct format! not that the graphics on the site ar'nt good anyway, but just imagine the possibilities :-0 all they request is that their logo appear somewhere on the top of the board at the same size as the info panel they show on the website.

You'd need to send them a PSD file at 300dpi RGB format at the same size as the board. Im a graphic designer so can translate that for anyone who'd hell bent on doing it.

im thinking some sort of scary shark repelling pair of eyes on the base maybe!

I ride cardboards. I have a 117cm cardboard which i love to bits it has killer pop and goes up wind like it is on steroids. I am just about to recevie a new 128cm cardboard as well. I have found the boards very similar in construction to underground flx series. But it is hard to go past the freedom of getting to choose your own shape, stance width, graphics and fin size. I have riden underground boards in the past and found them not to have as much pop as my 117cm cardboard.

I live at lennox head, northen NSW and iwould be happy to give any one dropping past a go of my boards.

If any one would like to have a look at what Cardboards have to offer check their site www.cardboarding.com they have a huge selection of boards for any style and is defiantly worth giving a go.

C'mon guys,

There must be others out there that have had some experience with both.

The way I see it without riding one, I'm not gonna make a purchase.
Also the pros against the cardboard is the resale value.

I like to update every now and then.

If I went out and got an Underground from kitepower and was looking to update in the near future, (1 year) I'd get at least $700 for it for an excellent condition board.

With a cardboard ? who knows ? well lets just say that they are an unknown.

I dare say If I posted an underground, It'd be gone in 2 days flat.

Do that with a cardboard? not such a well known brand, your guess is as good as mine.

All this, by judging by the responses from my compare post.
any takers

I don't know if I'd agree with getting "at least $700" for a 1 year old UG FLX in excellent condition. I think it's more likely "at most $700". There is so much second hand gear going at the moment. Whether sellers like it or not, price is likely to be determined by what people are willing to pay and not necessarily what it is worth.

Cardboards also have a cheaper listed price and there are heaps more shapes and sizes and graphics available then UG FLXs. Plus you can choose things like stance width without having to pay an extra $50-$100 for a custom like you would with UG.

Hi Victor and Hurrah

Your both correct demand determines price for sure. We sell a lot of used gear as you both know, in the last 12 months the lowest price I have seen an Underground go for was $450, that was for a well battered FD1.28 carbon, and wavetrays are still bringing $500+
If I put a current model used FLX in the window it would easily fetch $650 - $700, if it was less that $600 and was in reasonable condition it would be gone within 48hrs.
People know and trust the brand now, they know that they are tough and the few that have ever had a problem and have been quickly sorted by Kitepower/Underground.
Victor, talk to me about a custom stance board, I will not charge you $50 -$100 extra for it.

DOOD! Flex is so overated.

We are not snowboarding, Try a stiffer board like the LF Drop Ltd, we have had some of the best riders go to these boards that were riding the undergound FLX and cannot believe how much better they feel.

When are we going to learn from other sports, that hard flat landings on a board that bends like a banana just won't work.

My advice is test them both well and you will see what i mean.

Flex is rated, and we are not wakeboarding either.
Why are all the top brands like Underground, North, Naish, Slingy building boards that have flex?
I know in the case of Underground the boards are quite stiff between your feet and all the flex is in the tips, thats what makes Underground so nice to ride, best of both worlds.
Hard flat landings! Go for it??

The best riders land hard and FAST, not flat, if you are landing hard and flat you will break or your board will.

LF boards (which I sell) are stiffer than a lot of others at the moment, and in the end it all boils down to personal preference.

Judging on the basis of all the demo boards I have and the sales for each board flex is way more popular.
