I just saw a promo for Catalyst - ABC TV this Thursday 8pm.
Kites being used for expedition in the Antarctic on a kind of sleigh , but they were doing some jumps on skis.

Yeah, Catalyst have done a 10 minute story on us for this thursday's program. We're a group of three Sydney climbers who got into kiting as a way of reaching hard-to get-to mountains in remote places. These days we're more into kiting its self, and we've teamed up with Peter Lynn to build a kite powered sled for a big polar journey. Peter's sled goes very, very fast, well over 100 km/h on hard snow. We're now trying to raise the serious cash needed for a big trip, hopefully travelling to Greenland in April, then Antarctica the following year. Catalyst did a pretty good job with the story, the stuff with Peter particularly gives a great sense of how he thinks and works. We got permission from national parks to film with snow-mobiles near Kosciusko, which they revoked at the last minute when they heard we were flying kites, which they don't want in the park. Seriously. So half the snow-footage is filmed in a gusty ditch next to Charlottes Pass. But you do get to see an ABC reporter flirt with Lachlan Bede, who gives her a kite lesson in a 25-35 knot blizzard. It's must-see viewing!
