I was kiting alone at Catherine Point this arvo, I was pretty much done and coming in, and these kids (mid teens I would say) nicked my bag which had ~ $500 worth of stuff in it. The little smeg heads took off up the sand track.

So im yelling at the top of my lungs 'OI YOU KN MU***@!$%%!NTS DROP THAT M@$%#^!&KN BAG! RA RA RA' (my voice is all craoky and sore now)[}:)] - Anyway this seriously middle aged lady with her two very small dogs sprints up the path after them! I landed my kite (made it safe) and ran up the path and shes just walking down the path with my bag, she was a bit shaken - but said 'heres your bag' I said 'Wow that was a true act of bravery you have restored my faith in humanity!'

I said I wanted to give her a reward - But she said someone doing the same for her is all she would ask.

Awesome story - What a great deed.
But how did 1 "seriously middle aged" lady get the better of several teenagers.
More detail pls.

Hope you didnt offend her with all your "KN MU***@!$%%!NTS" & "M@$%#^!&KN"ing

Yeah puppet, I think my yelling, plus her running at them straight away made them think - 'stuff this' and they droped the bag.

But id like to think she cut sick and karate chopped them all over the place - and her little dogs bit them all over!

Yeah Bennie I knew this comment was coming - the stuff was a slingy rev bar, helmet, rashy, shorts, keys, sunscreen It all adds up.

The carpark at that spot is one of the worst in the metro area, so leaving it in the car was a bad call and I figure at least I can see it on the beach. But you are right, I think I will change my ways and take only what I need.

or bury it

The problem is where to put your car keys? I put mine in the bar bag and hide it under the sand. And just hope no one is watching. Just try and remember where you hid them. I always struggle to find them after.

Surf Lock's are a great option.
Peace of mind for about $70.

get a blank cut, lock your keys in the car well hidden, then lock the car with the blank, let it get rusty while its attached to your harness, i found the knife holder poutch good spot but, use a lanyard, you dont want a kitemare then finding out you lost the car key too haha and replace the blank every year.

Hey Macca, I do something similar to you ... my boardies have a small rope lanyard inside the pocket .. I loop the blank key through the rope and all is sweet .. most times I leave my full set of keys at home and just take the blank ... cheers

i agree with the 2 above statements about the key...never fails

i've seen my mate's car pulled because he tried to hide his key somewhere - not a good idea! i've got an 'elastic rope' on the inside of my boardies' pocket; or if using the wettie, it has the same elastic rope on the inside section of the neck. no dramas.

GET A SPARE & put the immobiliser/electronic device in the car - work's the best!

...OR hire that lady for $50 per session & you'll be sailing away with no worries!

I saw the whole thing, she ran inside a phone box and came out in a lycra super hero outfit, whipped the bag off them at super sonic speed and swapped it for one of her dog poo bags, then changed back before you saw her.
it was awesome.

Other options for keys,...

You could get a "Bluebottle" key pouch thingy from the Seabreeze shop.

Some waist harnesses have a key pouch with a little "lacky" (which is where I keep my key blank)

Some Ripcurl wetsuits have a key pocket with a lacky.

I think I may have been a bit harsh with the "seriously middle aged" bit -
she was definately not 'elderly' but I would say over 40 - Its a touchy subject, but the LAST thing I would want to do is offend this particular person.

She is a legend regardless of age, and has the courage of a 25 year old.

Having said that - it was only a bag, and if she had been assulted on my account -this story could have been entitled 'Civilian stupidity award' - Its a fine lline I guess.

Key in boardies pocket - no valuables on beach - lesson learned.
