Hi Andy.. I'm going to Coco's in July. July and August are supposed to be the most reliable months for wind. From the data that I have found it blows 15-25 knots all day every day.. Today for example was about 17-23.

I was there about 10 years ago and the agent tells me that things haven't changed much since then. He said that car hire is still dirt cheap,I would suggest a car as it's hike to the Lagoon side of the island. And then you can drive up to the ferry jetty (to go to other islands)and cart all your gear. The lagoon is huge, as I remember it (100 square km) and ringed by some 10 or more islands. As for christmas Island... I landed there on the way to Coco's last time, from the plane it looked like you would be battling to launch any where... It was surrounded by cliffs. I'm sure if you lived there it would be possible but I don't think it would rate as a destination. As for flights.. avoid the school holidays proper as there is no high school on the island so the kids going to and from the mainland fill up all the flights..

If you haven't been before / travelling solo Ian Lane and Jade (Peli Point) are the way to go for cocos. They've also booked out the whole season at cocos cottages (dammit!) - which are probably the best place to stay.

Until you see the water in the lagoon you won't believe it.

Don't think you'll find FF points easy to use though.
