If you want a new kite, the latest one on the market... do you care if it's not your favourite colour?

Or will you only get it if you like the colour scheme??

Depends how long the wait is for the favourite colour!

I just bought a new kite; not my ideal colour, but the wait for a "preferable" colour was a few weeks maybe longer.

I'd rather be out there riding than waiting for the right colour.

If, however the "preferable" colour was available within a couple of days then I might have waited.

But my "not ideal colour" is now growing on me and has almost become my "favourite" colour!

Color is pretty important when you buy the same kite at the same time from the same shop as a guy the same size with the same name. Good thing green is my favourite colour.

I'll fly any colour, given the choice between getting the kite immediately and having to wait..

Given a choice though, I would always go for the brightest fluoro colour as it makes you easier to spot of you get into trouble, kite recovery simpler - especially if it gets drowned...etc

Definitely Design over Colour
If colour is an option...great

but more often than not, its hard to get your favourite colour.
If i can save $$ by choosing a suckier colour... I;m with it!!

I guess it depends on the colour.
If a manufacturer releases a kite in Purple/Brown with yellow polkadots they can stick it up hiney.
If the kite is not in your favorite colour doesn't really matter if it's the latest cos you've got the latest.

I ordered my kite in Red/White came in Grey/Red but I'm over it. Retailers shouldn't ask what colour you want it in if they can't deliver what u ordered.

I'm really glad someone has finally asked this question.......after 3 years of kiting it's refreshing to see there are other kiters out there who think about colour, like meeeeeeeee...............you know all the new moves, KGB's , handle passes, riding deep at 3 mile, it's so stressful...... all I've really wanted to think about, was the colour of my kite or what colour kites look NICE................. I'm racing along and ....hey I look up in the sky and it's an orange kite above me, Wow....... Hard core, we are finally out of the closet, kiters who care about colour, lets get some tee shirts made up, maybe a club room. I've heard orange kites fly faster what do ya think..

We're balanced together ocean upon the sky.......NOT!
(It's a goal of mine you know, the ocean, the sky, the balance. Newbies gotta have goals you know!)

I think you are being a little anul here
Obviously colour is important but its enough to have the issue 'out there' for all discerning kiters to acknowledge & not feel put down upon.
As for a club ?? thats taking it too far .. and besides I (for 1) wouldnt feel comfortable being in a club with anyone who flies an orange kite they are obviously only here for the speed they can achieve regardless of anything to do with image
personally I chose to wait for delivery of my choice - a Steel Grey blending to Sky Blue canopy with a delightful matching Light Cream trim only to find it was delivered in a FIRE-ENGINE RED kite bag .
How embarassing now I have to unpack & pack up my new kite behind the bushes in case any one sees this unco combination.
When will they ever get right

The colour of the kite isnt that important to some degree. If you had a red harness, a fluro yellow kite, a blue wetsuit and a white board then you'd kinda have the Ronald Mcdonald look out in the water.

I'm not usually racsist towards kite equipment, but i say...Get a white kite so it gets dirty fast, or a blue one so its hard to see it. I like plane white, black or blue boards because they are usually the hardest to see when you loose your board on the water.
I go for a black full length wetsuite because i like to look like an injured seal being dragged around, to any sharks that may be near me.

My question to you is do you want your appearence to look individual or just like your favourite pro? or do you not care what you look like on the water? - there will always be someone out there with the same colours on a kite or close to yours, so i think its just a matter of personal preference and appearence - some people dont care about colour and they look like a rainbow, some want everything including kite BLUEso it all matches. I personally like to colour co-ordinate everything else but the kite (eg. board, harness, shorts, shirt, wetsuit, etc) so the kite colour i don't care about.

So in my opinion kite colour doesnt matter so much.
Personall prefence is the key - what ever make you feel good

What I learnt when I worked at a sailmaking loft was that the cloth manufacturers frequently take their worst cloth and dye it black because it hides the imperfections best. We had more problems with fresh black cloth than any other colour.
I haven't seen any dramas with black kites but it was certainly an occasional problem back then...

get a flouro board so the bugger stand out in the chop.
Yea it is nice to like what you see when you look up. But if i am looking at 2nd hand kites i do not ask about the colour. If i win lotto and go on a kite bing spree (30 second of lookin blankly at computer screen) you bet i will have fun with the colour choice.
