Hello,

I'm a beginner kitesurfer in London coming to Sydney for a month from 14th March. Is it worth bringing my kitesurfing gear (which uses up my entire baggage allowance)?

I've got Cabrinha switchblades (an 8 & an 11) -- is this about right for Sydney?

If I set aside ten days for boarding during my trip how many days can I hope to get on the water?

Is Botany Bay the best place for beginners? What other beaches would you recommend?

Also, if I'm planning on camping is there anywhere that I can camp within walking distance from a kitesurfing spot?

Finally, should I join the AKSA for the insurance while I'm there?

All advice appreciated!

8 and 11 are perfect.

Maybe head for Cronulla?? It does have small surf though. Although Botany is better for learners, you would want to stay near Dolls Point or Brighton le Sands. Im not sure about camping, just google around these areas.

Don't worry about the insurance thing..

How many days? It's been a bad season but maybe by then things will come good so maybe out of ten days Id hope for about 5 on the water, but that could be better or worse...

March is close to the end of the season but we still get reasonable wind.
Check out http://www.nswkba.com.au/locations for locations around Sydney and beyond.
Botany Bay is good for beginners.
Local shop is Kitepower www.kitepower.com.au/

Not sure about camping close by. There is a caravan park on Botany Bay - Grand Pines
www.caravancampingnetwork.com.au/nsw/syd/the_grand_pines.html. It is across the road from the beach.

As a committe member of NSWKBA (AKSA) I encourage membership. Bring a wetsuit. You'll probably only need your 11m kite.

There is a new camping park, its in the car park opposite the shop serviced by the infamous "cruiser toilet block).
There are at least a dozen vans using the carpark every night!
