For those of you concerned about safety, check out Dan's Safe Control Bars

http://www.zblob.com/kite/kitebar.html

After looking at those you'll feel really safe.

Given the year (2003) we were all experimenting with bars and quick releases. You couldn't buy a decent bar with a quick release system until 2004-2005. People were riding around with kites permanently snap-shackled to their harnesses.

I have to say my efforts were a lot more elegant than Dan's.

They all look like contraptions that jigsaw would of put together in the Saw movies. Though I do remember the fixed harness loop with no chicken loop on my first kite. Hardley any depower at all.

Perfect bar, but it need tennis racket handle tape rapped around the bar.

Or he could just use talc (like the weightlifters do) on the bar before he goes out.
It works for me.
