I'm taking my better half up to Coral Bay on Monday- (and my kites) What's the set up there, wind direction etc? From the BOM charts last few days looks like the wind is not as strong, consistent as Gnarloo, but it's a long drive to Gnarloo from Coral Bay- I see on the map there's a gravel road to a place on the coast south of Coral Bay (name starts with a W) - anyone with advice?

Not much wind predicted for the next few days.
Pack your snorkeling gear and fishing rods.

I was up there a few months ago and had one very quick session. Speak to the guy that runs the kayak rentals on the east end of the bay. He's a kiter and knows the rules.

Rules when I was there was no kiting in the main bay, you must be round the corner (i.e. towards the fishing area - east). Only a short walk but also only works on high tides.

Be considerate up there, lots of tourists, lots of snorkelers, lots of potential to get kiting banned.

this has been discussed alot in the forums. not much to get excited about up there (exmouth is where it's at). ianmac is on the money, very crowded and the only spot you can go without annoying rangers, tourists, locals, tour operators is the waterski area.

was there on the long weekend recently - CALM trying to pass ruling to get kiting banned in the main bay but probably only going to get passed by December. Although it's so bl**dy crowded you wouldn't kite there anyway! Take a drive to Maud's Landing (need 4wd) to the penninsula and you'll have ample room to kite, no people for miles!
Only thing is it's an onshore breeze and myself being a beginner wasn't the best place to kite. I did go kiting with the bloke from the Kayak hire and he's very helpful in offering local advice and good spots in C-Bay. That dude lives the life!!

Exmouth has plenty of spots - wouldn't say it's any better wind wise, just has more to offer. Enjoy.

Hey guys, respect in our area with DEC is a big thing, either being at Coral Bay, Exmouth, or in between.

No zoning happening yet, but there will in the very near future. Their eyes are open and taking note!

At least there is heaps of other stuff to do in between the wind lulls!
A great place to be enjoyed, anyway!

Hi Supra,

You are talking about Waroora. The kiting in Waroora or "Warra" isn't much good as the current that runs along the coast inside the reef takes a few knots off your windspeed and makes staying upwind a difficult task. You really need a 4WD to get to any of the spots in any case.

It's quite sharky. There was a woman bittten on the leg in knee deep water 18 months ago in the sanctuary zone at Pelican Point.

Head up to Exmouth for much better kiting conditions and waters. Locals at Exxy are tops, very laid back and friendly. You can also kite the S'Easters in the mornings at Bundegi and hit 2 sessions in a day.

Good winds,

kite hard is right Exmouth is the place , bundegi is a little choppy in the morning but ok just watch some rocks & reef on the low tide, easy enough to avoid though. There can be a bit of debri that washes up over night on the beach IE sharp sticks etc so a quick check before you throw your kite out on the ground is the go>
