Alot of good threads about the smaller cross bows, has anyone used the bigger kites?

Will let you know.

I have a 16 Crossbow arriving at the end of August.

It appears that they have a heavier than normal bar pressure when ridden at the bottom end of their wind range.

I will be trying the kite during these circumstances using a CC Bar rather than the supplied Crossbow bar to significantly reduce this low end bar pressure.

I don't think the elbows will take it otherwise.

The CC Bar gives similar depower sheeting range without the 2 to 1 ratio pulleys on the steering lines.

Lets see what happens.

Fitzy,

I don't know about the bar you are proposing to use, but if you take the pullies out of the equation then you will be:
A) Doubling the effect of the bar movement.so your bar movements will have to be a lot more precise
b)Increasing the load on the bar by a factor of 2.

Like I said I don't know about the setup you are proposing and may be wildly inaccurate (appologies if I am)

Have fun in the sun

Hey Elmo,
These kite-wimps that whine about pussie bar pressure...pffff
Think windsurfer booms, NOW that's fucn pressure.

G'day Fitzy
I think you will need to use the Crossbow bar, all the depower and safety features of the kite are integrated into the bar funtionality. You may be able to make the CC bar work, but I doubt I would bother, as there is nothing wrong with the Crossbow bar and it is very comfortable to use.

The kite feel at the bar at the very lowest part of the wind range could be described as firm, but not heavy, unless you have spaghetti arms.

You ride with and fly this kite differently to normal C shaped kites, it does not respond well to being muscled around.

Not long now Crossbows will be here in a few weeks.

Hi Elmo and Steve

I have just been considering the feedback available on the many forums regarding the increased bar pressure on the crossbow kites specifically when being ridden at the very bottom of their wind range. The higher wind ranges are apparently not a concern.

The feedback seems to indicate that this is due to the fact that the kite has to be ridden sheeted well in, in these conditions and my concern is that it will inflame birsitis in elbows. (Yep I am an old prick!) Pressure on the elbows when they are bent is what causes this painfull condition.

My thoughts are for the use of a different bar for light conditions only and will only be done if the bar pressure is excessive in light conditions as indicated in many posts.

The CC Bar gives very similar depower range to the crossbow so I believe that it will not compromise the safety angle. That is the reason I am going for the crossbow. Huge depower when needed, like my Rapture 12M

In relation to the 2 to 1 pully ratio, the effort required to turn the Crossbow with the pulleys attached to the steering lines will be twice that of a standard bar without pulleys, not the other way around.

The CC Bar on the other hand uses pulleys on the centre lines only, which means it is harder to sheet in but is not harder to steer.

If I feel it is necessary to use a different bar in light conditions I will use a longer version of the CC bar which will give me more leverage and should compensate for the lack of 2 to 1 pulley advantage in the steering lines. (the amount of steering line that is moved when you turn the kite)

Thanks for your input. I will let you know what the result is.

Look forward to riding the new kite soon Steve.

at close to 100kg i am always worried about claims that 12m rides like 14m and this kite can get ya going in 10 knots[}:)][}:)]. I am hoping the 16 crossbow goes well in the 15 to 20 knot range. Will let ya know. Only a couple of weeks now
