I've kited pretty close to it. I wasn't able to get upwind of it so turned around before getting in the wind shadow. Did this from south mission beach. not that amazing just choppy water.
Not sure if the beach on dunk faces east enough to make use of the se'r and i don't think NE'r would work.

I was there for a week on holiday about 3yrs ago in July. I wasnt kiting at the time but I remember it being pretty windy. you could hire small catamarans from waterspots. they wouldnt let us sail if the wind was over 15kts though and out of 7 days I only got to sail once for about 30min when I turned up at 9am.
Im going back next august so hopefully will try and kite

I went there around 3 years ago and thought the whole place sucked.
They decided the best time to renovate the pool was in the middle of summer when you couldnt go in the water because of the stingers (Feb 04). The whole place was run by backpackers who from memory worked there for 12 months in order to get a job on a P&O ship (They own the island). The free water sports were non existant but if you wanted to pay $100 an hour you could get wet. But if you got stung you were flown off the island at your expence as a precaution. Oh and the reef. 2 hours away by high speed catermaran. I couldn't wait to leave.
Thank god the place had limited pay tv channels.
