Just wondering if anyone kites off Dampier or any islands close to it, and what size kites they are flying.

Heya
i went to Dampier on a fishin trip last year
I took me kite hoping to get a fly either on the islands or from the mainland.
I never even took my kite out of the bag - was good fishin weather but no wind.

The locals will tell you how sharky the whole area is - and they arent joking. you can see them in the water when your fishing.
So put on a shark repeller if that bothers you.

i heard a there is a spot you can kite 20kms south of the headland, where there is a beach that isnt protected by the islands, and locals told me they have seen a dude kiting there.

i reckon there could be a good potential for Dampier - but you need a boat, and a 4wd.
go hard

Ive just moved up to Dampier and brought my 12m up here about 2 weeks ago.
I havent used it yet cos ive been working everyday, but there is a few spots around that place that are kite-able in my opinion.

If theres wind up here tomorrow ill be going out, so ill let ya know how it goes.

I lived in karratha from 1980-84 and learnt to sailboard in Dampier Harbour. In the hotter months the afternoon seabreeze is very consistent from the west and usually above 20 knots, which is straight onshore at the beach next to the boat club.
In the winter it gets strong but gusty easterlies from the bigger high pressure systems, which I guess you could kite in Hearson's Cove, but again it would be straight onshore.

If you can get out to the islands by boat then Enderby, Rosemary, West Lewis and Angel Island have beaches that will catch some of the seabreeze.

Overall my memories of the place are that it is often hot and windy!
