Hey everybody, the other day I headed out to Point Walter to take advantage of the easterly winds, before going any further though I had the most excellent arvo, however I do have concerns with those two posts sticking out of the middle of the sand bar. Myself being quite new to the sport this season but totally addicted I found myself very conscious of them and I am wondering how much longer before an accident occurs?
Does anyone else share the same concerns or is it just me?
the poles are there to gauge how high you can jump..... if you cant jump over them you do not belong at the spit heaps of other places to go.... other options is to give you self heaps of room around them no brainer....
go and read what the signs say and you will probally find out that some rare birds nest/rest on the sand spit during migation and that people/dogs/cats and kiters should not disturb them... (it was a bit hard reading them from 70 foot up) bring the attention of the poles to the concle and you would risk banning kiting at the spit all together.
enjoy the river and winds but respect the environment...
No concern if you keep your distance, just remember Keep downwind clear and you will not have a prob, if you are worried try other locations, there are plenty in the river.
I figured they were there to gauge the height of your jumps, I did read them too, I still think they should be further towards the wharf.
HOWEVER - NEVER FEAR I have no intentions to report them, why would I, they will be there to gauge the height of my jumps soon, as I said I too am addicted and want as many spots to kite as everyone else, just thought I'd see what everyone else thought of them.
Biggest problem at the spit is the razor rocks If its your 1st time there & you cant see them (as in not low tide) ask around before heading out. They really suck - shred you every touch.
Thats right vert, no concern, I would be more worried about the sand bar itself than a couple of poxy signs, hey ryland That is until you get one up ya.....ouch lets not go there.
