I loved daylight savings when I had my old 7 to 330 sparky job but now that I work two 12hr days 7am-7pm then two 12hr nights 7pm-7am it doesn't really work for me.
Its too late to get out when I finish at 7pm anyway and when I start at 7pm I often have to get off the water just as the wind really starts cranking at around 530.
Then I get four days off though so there is plenty of time for kiting for me anyway .
I will probably vote yes anyway to give you guys a chance to get out more.

I'm voting YES but I would like to know where to vote. Every time I look for the website or the Channel whatever link I cannot find it.

If anybody finds the correct link , let me know.

Cheers

You cannot vote until a date has been set between April and September and you need to be a resident to vote and one who understands that the weather is hot all day long with or without daylight saving ( oh and curtains dont fade with the change in the clocks )

I love WA. I really do. But if Daylight savings gets turned down, it might just make me angry enough to leave and never come back. just maybe.

Really makes me laugh the people that are against it. Yesterday on Talk Radio one chap said that it affects him phycologicaly having to eat his dinner when it is still light. ????????? What the!!!!!
This buisness of people who want to run or have a swim first thing in the morning...
How many people want to exersice first thing in the morning compared to the amount of people you see out and about in the parks and beaches after work? Big difference. Most people up at the crack of dawn taking walks are retirees and they will be up at the crack of dawn no matter what. An hour here or there is nothing to them.
For me it means an extra hour kiting after work and that`s all that matter to me.

at least you guys got to trial it, queensland is too backward and short sighted to give us a chance, the poor farmers really struggle as they have to work an extra hour, the cows get confused and no one here wants to go out and invest in new clocks with 25 hours on them, oh and the classic, it will really screw up public transport changing everything an hour, at 8 oclock do i catch the 8oclock bus or the 9ocklock bus or the 8oclock bus at 9ocklock. ohhhhhhhhh its just too confusing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think you'll find you have to be a citizen to vote which is why I'm finally sorting out citizenship so I can vote for daylight saving.

I remember the Queensland trial in the early 90s, I really liked it there then, even before kitesurfing.

I was having a look at a news website and stumbled across a list of polls which had been run on the site. I found one which was titled "Do you want daylight savings to continue indefinitely?"

Unfortunately I can't find that page again, but I found the results of the poll in my browser history. www.perthnow.com.au/

In the meantime, the phone poll one of the TV stations ran over the weekend gave the option of "would you support daylight savings if it ended in early March?". I think I saw the result of this being in favour of "no", though I'm not sure how it accommodated people who would support it regardless? Was that how it turned out, did anyone see? I wonder if there is any correlation between the results of the polls and respondents who vote on the internet compared to those who vote by phone?

Im about to move to WA.

Is it still possible to get to the beach and get a quick kite in WITHOUT daylight savings? if your finishing work at 5 from the city?

From what I have read its been voted out the last 2 times so I am not holding my breath

yeah its still possible.

i remember finishing work at 5 thirty, getting to floreat by 6, and coming in from a 1.5hr downwinder at scarbs just as the sun was setting.

the only difference is that with DLS the 1.5 hr can become a longer 2.5hr downwinder!!!!!

ill vote YESSSS but wouldnt mind it ending at the start of March personally!

Yes, on New Years Eve a friend and I both finished at 7pm DST (6pm normal time), I was in the city and she was in Freo, so we met down at Swanbourne and probably still got in close on an hour on the water. Mind you we didn't come in until after the sun went down and it was fairly dark.
We were a little cautious when out deep with all the shark sightings that were happening at the time (I wasn't sure if sharks were aware of daylight saving and what time they usually had dinner ) , but it was a good way to see out the year.

Qld tried it in 89 or 90 and it was voted down, it's stupid idea.
What we need is daylight savings in winter when it too dark to do anything after work, it's still light till ~8PM in WA without it, and who's out kiting later than that anyway ?

WA might be a great place to live but they sure don't like change. It's a bit like a time warp stuck in the 80's. The shop trading laws are joke and the government resists any change, mainly to protect the interests of the small shop owners at the expense of consumers.

I can't think of a better place in Oz that is suited to daylight saving, a great outdoor lifestyle with the weather to suit, read kiting.

Once you've heard some of the parochial opinions on DS I'm not optimistic it will get in.

Would have been good prior to breeding.
Kiting week days after work are usually no good as under pressure to be home to help out with the kid.

Unfortunately, what Daylight Savings means for me is I have less of a "window" on the weekend as the seabreeze now comes in an hour later !!!

It amazing here in the West for some reason the majority of people are scared of change. No one wanted extended trading hours so I thought go to the shops on a Sunday no one will be there, boy was I wrong more people there than on a Saturday morning , so what hope have we got of keeping DLS.

Well I enjoyed it while we had it, but has any one heard a valid reason not to have DLS, I havn't there are alot of misinformed people out there, just hope we get a YES vote

Yes one "valid" reason from one person phoning in to 6pr said that they have to draw the curtains to watch the t.v. ????? So do we all watch telly after dark with the curtains open? Oh and it would make the curtains fade quicker. Get a flippin life! Or a good set of blinds.
