With a few people stating that we are just experiencing a kiting craze and things will settle down once it becomes less fashionable, I was wondering if you guys actually know anyone who got into kiting, manage to get to his feet, go back and forth then decided it was all too hard and threw it all away, sold their gear and decided to go back to their pc.

It certainly doesn't look like any of my mates is considering the option of flagging kiting for good to get some quality time with the misses so I thought I should ask.

If no-one on seabreeze has even heard of someone quiting, we are screwed and our local will be soon busier than a one arm brickie in Baghdad

Or maybe we could burn the schools to stop the increase in crowd.

Yes a properly trained student is less dangerous than someone trained by your dodgy mate but 95% of the new crew would not attempt kiting if they didn't have access to a school

^^^^ônly because they didnt want to be anywhere near you two.

They actually still kite,,
they just didnt want to hurt your feelings when you rang and asked them to come for a kite........."ummmmmmm,I cant come for a kite cause....ummmmm....I dont kite anymore???"
Take the hint.

But seriously,,,,,,,I couldnt imagine life without kiteing,,,,,,,how boring.

Nice try, but I don't think we even asked each other whether we were going kiting. You just showed up at the beach and knew everyone else would to. Those were the days.

I have spoken to a few people through work who have all the gear but due to kitemares have fallen off the horse and haven't got back on.

Guess getting dragged along the beach at a rate of knots or towards a main road can have a detrimental effect on some people.

In all cases they have had lessons from a certified school.

I encourage them to give it another go but aknowledge that you really have to want to kite to get through the learning process. Kitemares. Walk of shame. Wrong kite. Wrong location. Wrong kite buddies. Wrong kite holiday destinations. Wrong boardies over the wettie. Serving the wrong beer to your mates after an epic downwinder (nah all beer tastes good after an epic session :).

Thankfully kiting isn't for everyone.

Im dreading the days when Im over the hill and well past it and start saying oldies stuff like...."" ahhh,,,those were the days"
Must suck when you start thinking life was better back then.

The world, life, has changed. Enjoy today, not be angry cause life was,in your mind ,better 20 years ago.

Better to realise that life gets better as you age,
then bang on and be grumpy cause you live in the past.

My life is awesome everyday. Surely you can't deny you miss friends when they go their separate ways?... What is wrong with living in the past for a bit anyway? Memories are the catalyst for dreams in my opinion.

Take a leaf out of Bob Dawson's book .The guy got more passionate and out there with age .Truly inspirational ,truly missed.

Very prophetic Lotofwind

It wasn't age that discouraged the people i spoke to but i guess the fear factor from a bad kitemare.

1 of the girls had just completed the Rotto swim solo in a good time which in my estimation takes a bit of ticker.

Yep, totally agee Mr float, thats why I said,"life gets better as you age".
I use to be in the mind of live fast die young,,,,dont want to live past 50 and not be able to enjoy the sports/life I live now,,,untill I met Bob,
charging harder and enjoying life more than most half his age.
He not only taught me to kite,,,much more than that,,,,changed the way I look at life and live day to day. He had that affect on alot of people.RIP.

I think out of the ten or so original Yeppoon guys that started around the same time as me there are only two of the guys and me left, the rest have quit for more wife/family time.. As Rowdy said, we used to all just turn up to the same beach at the same time everytime it was windy because it was guaranteed everyone else would already be there or be on there.. Such good memories from the old days of kiting

As rowdy has said, 95% of the guys I started kiting with have now quit I reckon, most of which actually got to a pretty decent level for the time.

Dont jump ahead of yourself,,,learn one thing at a time,
Your legend at foruming anyway. To be good at foruming you must
(a) Tell everyone how they should kite
(b) Bag anyone that rides a different style to you,, and
(c) Tell everyone how kiteing was better in the olden days.
I need some lessons from the master.

Why the sarcasm,,,Im offering to help you learn how to kite better and get past the stage your stuck at?

Oh well,,,your loss.

I'm doing all that stuff double time though, what's my problem? Am I just trying to hard at it? It's like you don't try at all and just say seriously lame obvious trolls but somehow you are winning hard out... It's not fair, it's like you are a natural at it.

I'm not being sarcastic at all I genuinely need your help, you are exceeding even the creator now at sucking hard out and I need to know your secrets.
