Hi,

I have a Mono 9m I don't use much. Last year my 2017 north bar was lost or stolen. I've replaced it with a 2020 North Navigator bar which is low V . The old bar (pre north/duotone split) was a high Y bar.

Just wondering if anyone regularly flies Monos on a low V bar. I don't use it much so it's not worth getting a bar for. If it won't fly *well* I should bite the bullet and sell it.

Anyone?

KBGhost,

my best advice is to try it and see for yourself. You may or may not notice any difference in handling or performance.

Reading on your North 2020 Bar specs, I found this:

ADJUSTABLE LENGTH FLYING LINES 22M (12M + 10M)22m lines have a split at 12m, which is far enough for the bar to travel to completely depower our largest kite when you flag out. Remove the standard 10m top section of flying line and 12m lines are ideal for schools to teach with and for foil racing. 8m and NEW 6m line extensions are available as an accessory for wave riding or tighter kiteloops.

This means you can easily adjust your bar to a high V using nothing more than a single stainless steel O-Ring. If you don't have one you can get it at Whitworths marine here: www.whitworths.com.au/stainless-steel-ring

The procedure to do this is explained in detail in this Airush video below:

hope this helps

Duotone kitebars have splits measured down from the kite. The split for a quad bar is 18m down from the kite.

In effect for a 20m line length, you don't need a high Y at all and the split should be at about 4m up from the chicken loop for your Navigator bar. There is a small difference in trim by not putting a split on( a few cm difference) that you can adjust with pigtails on the lines if you want.

I would probably try and put a high split on something like a rebel or dice that I was going to fly at the upper end of the wind range but I'd just pull the trimmer on my bar for something like a mono as you probably won't be flying that overpowered.

Or you buy a low Y adjuster like Duotone is having on the Click bar. I bought it from Liquid Force (some shops may still have this part). You can then quickly adjust where you want the Y to be. I had to get rid of the stupid red stopper ball on the Click bar to be able to lower the Y down completely (as most kites have a low Y). But on the North bar you may be able to just add it more easily, check it out. My gf flew her Dice on an Ozone low Y bar recently and it behaved well (small size), but not sure about Mono...

I regularly fly Mono 12m with adjusted low V click bar and have no issues ..should be fine on 9m. Hate high Y configuration - stupid and unnecessary
