Hi everbody, i am interested in doing the downwinder on the 8th leaving from leighton. Having spent the last 12 months doing my best to go upwind im not sure of the best way to go downwind.
Do you fly overpowerd or slightly underpowerd. would it be better riding a directional or is a tt fine. Do you hook in to the harness line on youre bar.
I would appreciate any advise on this subject.
PS can anybody help me out with a lift back to leighton after the downwinder,

Keysey, a lot depends on the wind and kite/board sizing. When the wind is really light you need to fly 100-110 degrees off the wind just to keep planning so going downwind is a no brainer... When it's blowing harder you need to maintain an edge to keep control and edging is part of the technique to staying upwind. What I do to "burn off" some distance is lots o'jumps, bearing away on the swells when coming towards the beach, ie., practicing your wave riding techniques. The best one for me though is simply riding toe side as there is no way I can stay upwind when doing this

As for hooked or unhooked I only ever ride hooked in and a TT will give you a lot me control in the stronger winds.

I'm looking to hookup with someone to share a ride. I could meet you at Scarborough, leave one of our cars there and then drive back to Leighton for launch.

Hi Keysey

What Airhead is saying is right.
One thing that I have being doing is standing up a little straighter not edging as much with more power on the kite.
But you have to watch that you don't lose it.
So don't think that you have to be the best out there. We are just having fun.
For the ride back - if people can help out it would be nice. I can fit about 4 or5. Spaces filling fast.
