Hey all, does anyone know the closest place to Sydney to do a big downwinder? Is the closest one seven mile beach down at Shoalhaven?

Cheers

Hello, Palm beach to longy sucks balls to be honest, I have done it a number of times, google map it, there is nothing but cliffs from palm beach to Narrabeen in a NE.

What is good is Longy to Newport in a SE, you can get into all the beaches in a SE, but most of the beaches are protected in a NE.

Watch out for the headlands.

Thats my 2 c

Up Central Coast way - Norah Head (Soldiers beach) to the Entrance Channel. Sandy Beaches the whole way down, a few nice breaks along the way plus if you do it on the weekend start and finish spots always have a big crowd of people to show off to

Yeh, I'd definantly say longy to palm would be good in a SE or S wind. The problem with the NEs also is that they are generally more shortlived... just something I've noticed, they only blow in the arvo usually and die out within a few hours of starting.

Only problem is that longy in a SE is a close to onshore wind so it would be a bit difficult to bash through those waves if they are too big unless you launched on the very south side of the beach (near that big red pole in the sand).

Also if the wind goes too southerly like they did yesterday it will become super gusty so you'd have to stay a few hundred meters out to avoid hitting wind shadows.

I know those beaches fairly well by now

If anyone does this I'd definantly be interested in coming along by the way .

Hehe, how else would I know these things

Every stuff up I've had has been a lesson. I mean... it's totally possible, just might end in me swimming a few hundred meters... or if a really lucky a kilometer

Kitesurfing inspires masochism at times... just watch me when I'm in the waves... all those crashes are really on purpose but I have the time of my life doing it all hehe

Thanks guys, I didn't even think about the Northern beaches cause of the cliffs, but definately sounds doable. When a good S/SE is predicted for a weekend day I will put a post out and hopefully we can get a crew together

This comming weekend there is the Nationals freestyle comp on at Elliott Heads with plenty of space for freer riding. It would be sure worth the trip as the wind and tides will be perfect. Elliott Heads is 20 k's from Bundaberg. Could be well worth the trip.

A downwinder would be sick fun.
Iv talked to a few guys before who have done it. They started at Palmy in a NE and went to manly. It would be possible in either Northerly to a Southerly. Anyway im keen for it with a surfboard ducking into beaches for waves then heading back out to sea..

Do it on a weekend when i dont have school.. Please wind gods
