Hi,

Have had 2 strange ebay experiences in the past couple of weeks both related to the following auction of 3 monkey kites - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=012&item=220036061740&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEDW%3AIT&rd=1

1/ Was outbid on an item which was at "open auction" only to find the item was relisted the next day. I would have thought this would reduce any of the benefits of buying at auction if the seller can say - I am not selling to you after they have put an unreserved auction on ebay.

2/ Being the underbidder - someone (random person as it turned out) sent me an email saying I had the chance to buy (through ebay) the product at the price of my last bid - seemed weird as I also saw the product relisted on ebay. This turned out to be a fraudulent offer - have since recieved a number of other offers relating to the same item.

Question - has anyone else experienced either of these, and is it common practice?

yes its happened to me. ya gotta watch out. theres heaps of fraudsters out there. plus ebay is easy to cheat heaps of sellers do it. have 2 accounts. to 'bid up' their items and eventually outbid it if they don't get the price they want

I noted the same add on e bay last week.Out of curiousity I looked
at the sellers selling history .Two bidders it seems had been refused
the kites after winning the bid . I asked the seller wether he would with draw the item from sale if the bidding did not, in his opinion
reach a fair price. His reply was that he tried to put a $1400 reserve
on them but did not know how. Think he should have taken the $900
offer. Have sold and bought kites on e bay, seems to work ok.Suppose
it's the old story "buyer beware"The new buy and sell spot here
looks good, easy to use for us not so computer literate types.Sold
a 16mtr there couple of weeks ago.

Yeah this happens a bit, and is defiantely against EBAY policy

Report this to EBAY and all the seller gets a slap on the wrist, but it is worth it to teach them a lesson

Reading his feedback he sounds very dodgy - "Had already told buyer would not sell expensive item to someone w feedback of 1!" - what the hell?

sometimes this happens if the seller has more than one of that item for sale. i have recieved these offers to buy at my last highest bid and accepted and all went well. other times i realise that they obviously have more stock so i refuse their offer to buy at my last highest bid and when they re-list the item i bid a lower bid. they then send me the offer and i accept :)

Ebay sent out a warning recently about people doing that... I think I would just give that one a miss!
