I am not sure about everyone else but we had some major hysteria here. The bureau of meteorology posted a Tsunami warning and people jammed the roads heading to high ground. They should just close the road now and not let them return cause they are poluting the gene pool. Dead set it is fookin embarrassing. One of the islands did get a wave, it was 20cm high, apparently a jockey and a garden gnome nearly drowned.

And what if it was as large as the Christmas Day Tsunami in Thailand?
I don't get it, people, are you so crazy?
Don't you understand that you don't joke with "Mother Nature"?
So, as I undrestand you did not evacuate, didn't you?
If the wave would be so big like the one in Thailand, and you would be "gone", we than can say that " the genes pool was cleaned", wouldn't we?

Anyone with balls should have grabbed their board, paddled out and waited.

Good call.
Nothing happened here either. Although I regretfully did see a 20cm salami on the beach!

Hang on don't get me wrong I am not saying hang around and drown. People who read the warning were advised that we would have advance information from the outer islands and to stay calm and stay off the roads. You cannot draw parallels between Thailand and Cairns because we have infrastructure in place to deal with major flooding.

Common sense would dictate that we wait for appropriate evacuation information to pass to us from the people who know best.
