Just curious as to whether there's any spots in Europe that can compare to somewhere like Brazil with consistant winds year round. any help with the different spots and times of year they work would be great.
yeah I know been there once before the space they have for all the kiteboarders there is a joke though. I saw so many tangles and fights and all sorts wind is all time the spots crowded
could be different if they just let the kiters use some more beach space!
Guincho Portugal [Just west of Lisbon] June September howling afternoon sea breezes often 30kts [from the right] big waves. Cold water [full wettie veen in summer]. Works off a local acceleration of Portugals West coast Sea breeze accelerated by the sintra mountains. The peniche area has some excellent sideshore point breaks with less wind but still enough to kite.
Northern spain Galicia also has reliable summer tinme breezes and waves.
My home turf the west of Ireland has some beautiful wind and waves with stunning scenery with large uncrowded beaches with unrestricted access, too cold in winter though.
Cyclades [Greek islands] get the summer 'meltemi' northerly breezes, onshore wind waves in a few spots, try paros or Mykonos. Great nightlife weather and cheap.
Morocco especially the Essaouira area has great wind [once aain fromm the right] and waves, is cheap and very reliable. Basically like WA with Arabs and wind fromn the right.
One word of warning if you are going to go around in a van [the best idea] buy one with a sealed off back [ex mail delivery vans are ideal] no windows, and just a skylight for air, that way you can park anywhere at night without been suspected of being a camper, and break ins and theft of all your gear [very likely anywhere in southern europe] is less likley to happen.
