The 06 wave titles had nothing,or,very little to do with kiting !

The judges were surfers,not kiters.

The whole idea was to surf like surfers to win. To appear NOT to be using a kite. To utilise the natural momentum of the wave etc.

So,if you want a kite that doesn't behave like a kite,get a doona !!

If you want a Kitesurfing kite, get a proper one !

Flamer Disclaimer:
Firstly:I have never tried a doona,so I wouldn't really have a clue !
Secondly:I have only seen them extremely rarely.

I have a problem with the wave nats, not the doonas !
It was like selling out! lets try to get surfers to accept us as surfers! Why?
Kitesurfing in waves is FAR superior to surfing !

User - are you a top surfer - if not you need a disclaimer to your disclaimer.

Surfing and kiting in waves are two different sports, they have a different stoke and different things that make them enjoyable. Truly good kiters who do wave kiting are generally good surfers in the first place. The two sports require different conditions.

Doonas aren't too bad for freestyle either check out
Sebastian Bubmann is a full-time student but still managed to become German Kitesurf freestyle champion last year. He was also Junior World Snow Kite champion and competed in PKRA last year (best placing was 7th I think). His study has prevented him competing in any PKRA events so far this year.

The versatility of FlySurfer foils for water, land or snow/ freestyle, waves, racing or just cruising is something that has always appealed to me - amongst many other benefits http://members.iinet.net.au/~ianyoung/Flysurfer.html

But as User has shown, many people like to put them down despite never having flown one. More than happy to let any competent rider that is broad-minded enough to come and test-fly one - just email or call me on 0414 716 812 :-)

Classic! The conDENSEd Foils Suck argument.
1. Foils suck. Don't get a foil.
2. But I haven't tried one, or even seen many of them...
3. Not that I've got anything against foils...

Thanks for the offer of the demo Ian! I'd love to try a Speed2. Either the 12 or 15. Just the small problem of getting myself to WA....

I might take that offer up on a go on a flysurfer... preferably something aimed at wave riding. I have the 5 meter pulse but just haven’t had enough opportunities to really get to use it yet to get a decent 30 knots were it would be powered enough to get a feel of the kites performance.

my heart is kind of set on the 7 meter 08 rebel but if a 7 meter flysurfer that’s good for wave riding has the lower wind range that foils claim - well only can try, I might change my mind and you may get a sale.

The 5 meter pulse certainly fly's well the few times I have used it – I call it the wiper sniper because you can hear the lines as the kite zips back and forth in the wind window. You could almost take someone’s head off with those lines!

Launches easy although found it difficult to land by myself.

I am not a closed minded person and if something has merit I will give it a go. There is a difference between a bow/sle bridle and a flysurfer bridle - most bridles on inflatable only need one broken to cause the kite to screw up -death spiral or cause a swim in, the bridles on a flysurfer are many so if one breaks the rest can compensate – its still daunting to look at all those bridles but in theory they seem more superior and less prone to problems unlike bridled inflatable (hence I went to the rebels)

User you should contact Ian and give the kites a try if he is open to letting you use one – the offer is there as far as I can see – so why not take it up?

Agree with everything said above.

I have this funny feeling that I will migrate to flying doonas as I want an all around thingy and have had fun on them before. Saw a Pulse today at PW and it certainly has appeal.

lol.
Foil-daddys seem to crave constant confirmation that they fly superior/ok kites.
They're dreaming.
It's called inferiority-complex.
That's a psychoanalysis thing.
Don't stress about it.
haha

Doonas will always be,
I repeat,
will always be....
fringe-dwelling, alternative, left-of-centre kitesurfing vehicles.
Live with it.

It would be a shame particularly for noobs who would miss out on the ease of learning with them if narrow minded bullies like you scare people away from them from even trying them and deciding for themselves . I import and distribute them but make most of my business elsewhere so financially I don't really care .your de one doin the stressin .Chill !

I use LEI's and flysurfers. Everyone to their own opinion as long as you not trying to do a JW. To be critical of either on a public forum you have to have flown both otherwise your credibility is zero.

What happens when you drop a foil in the water? Many times in a session? If the only way to progress is to drop your kite (this will happen when you try new stuff unhooked), then what do foils offer to offset their massive water relaunch disadvantages?

Hey Kitegrom,

I can only speak about Flysurfer kites.

Relaunching is one of the advantages of these foils.

When they sit on their trailing edge, they will relaunch by themselves. When they sit on their leading edge, you fly them backwards and rotate them as shown here http://www.flysurfer.com/Gallery/v/videos/manual/PSYCHO3_relaunch.avi.html (note that the pumping action is required only in light wind). Or you can just pull one backline on some models as shown here www.flysurfer.com/Gallery/v/videos/manual/pulse_relaunch.avi.htmlhttp://.

Cheers,

Fred
