looks a fairly simple approach.

But a word of caution for people trying it. Carbon has excellent tensile (pulling) strength, but very poor impact strength. It is probably not a good choice for reinforcement under the foot pads. Kevlar or glass are better.

Wood is even better for reinforcements.
