Hi Everyone

I have 8 days off in October this year and want to head up to Exmouth / Coral Bay.I am struggling to find info about the kiting up there.

So far all I can find is that around nigaloo / coral bay the kiting is not so good, to many tourists and lots of reef? I know sandy bay is good...

so do I drive up in my 4wd, given only 8 days and only my car I probably wont have much time to explore. I dont want the majority of the trip to be just driving though but if theres good kite spots im keen.

or do I cough up some cash and just fly to exmouth, rent a 4wd and stay in a hotel and drive to sandy bay?

Any suggestions?
thanks
J

Perfect timing. See

pm champoo or turtlehunter for details of Exmouth options generally.

G'day jsk,
I am driving up to Exmouth from Perth for the Expo at the start of October. You can get up there in 13 hours but i'm going to break up the trip as there are heaps of great kiting spots and other things to see on the way.

I have 11 days but would think 8 is enough. As puppet said pm locals up there.

The way to go IMO is to fly to Exmouth, rent a cheapie car (you don't need 4WD) and stay at The Lighthouse. Done this a couple of times now and wouldn't do it any other way.

thanks guys,

in Exmouth the seabreezes are SW same as in Perth? Is the Lighthouse accom on the eastern side same as Exmouth itself….does this mean you have to drive over to the western side every day to kite?

did find a place to hire a 2wd camper up there…could be a cheaper option but I was worried id get up there and find all the good spots you need a 4wd to get too…also its nice to be able to drive onto the beach where you kite so you have beers/shade close by..not sure if that’s possible up there?

Kite locations are plenty..but Graveyards, and Sandy Bay will be your spots I think. All paved roads, no brainer.....the car hire give you your car at the airport and that's the drop off as well: 24 Nimitz St, Exmouth WA 6707#8206; - (08) 9949 4610#8206;

Wind is SW and firm....don't hit any mating turtles....small kite country.

Oh, and make sure you bring beer for the locals.
