I noticed in yesterdays Newcastle herald that there is a DA to stage Fat as butter at Nobby's beach .
Here is a letter that I sent to the council
[email protected]If you agree you might want to send something similar .If you disagree you might want to send something that supports it
To the general manager
I am writing to object to the fat as butter development and those like it in
the area described in the DA Newcastle Herald Sat Aug 28 2010 .
This is a totally inappropriate space for this .Nobby's beach is just that ,
a beach that people go to swim/surf /kitesurf /walk etc .It is not a rock
concert venue and it is a great inconvenience to those who wish to enjoy the
BEACH the PARK and THE BREAKWALL whenever these inappropriate developments
are granted .This is an iconic landmark and major tourist attraction and
every time one of these major events is staged the place is trashed and
looks disgusting for weeks afterwards and whilst it is on and during setup
and packup access to the beach is terrible and parking is greatly reduced .
Newcastle ratepayers have spent good money improving the area for its proper
use as a beach and park.
I will be starting a petition to oppose this inappropriate development and others that come along.
I do not want to be a wowser and kill the event and may I suggest that the
park that already has a natural amphitheatre and that is rarely used for
anything be used for this and many other inappropriate developments at
Nobby's beach , ie the park right across the road surrounded by Nobbys road
and wharf road .Another nearby outdoor venue that could be used is King
Edward park or the stockton foreshore parkacross the river . Another more appropriate venue are the showgrounds
Thankyou
Yours sincerely
