Exactly. A dude continued his ~1000 miles journey. I enjoyed reading his posts. Obviously not ws.
It's pretty tasteless to even think someone would stage something like this.
Getting tangled in my lines is my biggest fear while surfing with a kite, anyone have any stories to share & tips on how they got out of it....or didn't.
A quick note on a personal experience Surf 5ft beach break - x on wind About 12 months ago I dropped my kite in front of an approaching set, the lines were slack and the kite and the lines washed over me wrapping the lines around my legs - I got dragged by 3 sets of largish whitewater - So 3 long drags under water feet first In lull I was able to kick off the lines and escape - Fortunately I had a wetsuit which minimised the damaged but it was still very painful - and very scary My kite was destoryed do to the force of the whitewater with my resistance from me being dragged
My suggestion - if you are down wind or in front of your kite with waves approching - eject every and swim awayUPWIND before the wave hits - I would gladly risk a lost bit of gear to avoid this experience.
No way. Just had exact same experience, fast wave outran kite/wind - slow kite - huuge swell - lull- clipped white water - f@#$!. Sideshore and light.
Kite deflated. Smashed duckdiving and ended up very quickly towards lines/in spaghetti - pulled em off them swam up current and upwind - super hard as a deflated kite does not get pushed by waves as well as me - energy was drained fast, mate then dragged me in thankfully, I was in deep 5hit as rip was soo filthy.
Lesson - more respect for these conditions. Light winds, huuge swell, no escape channel , sideshore, filth rips.
Ejecting is no simple decision - i ended up doing this - but only after making sure a friend was covering me - i still swam upwind attached to stay clear of my lines. Few weeks ago i ended up with someone not looking where they were going then looping their kite around mine and tying me up in lines - they were clued up and swam down wind to try and slack lines while I tried to get em off, then pumped up my other kite - set out my lines - washed my car etc.. lol
