hi baggsy,
seat harnesses are easier for learning as they do not ride up which is great if your delicates are on your chest, girls tend to stick with seats as there preffered for comfort as guys for obvious reasons tend to gravitate toward the waists, no one brand is better than the other if it fits, beat bet is to try a few on, a shop should have a setup allowing them to sit all there weight down into it to test out comfyness

hey hey baggsy...

I use the DaKine Tempest seat harness, and compared to my previous DaKine which was a guys one, there is a MASSIVE difference. So don't get the blokes one thinking it won;t matter. The girls one caters for a chicks figure and is absolutely perfect. RRP is about $160, but you can get it usually for about $130 =]

Hi Graeme
Prolimit does seat and waist girl harnesses (the pure girl).
Waist or seat is a personal preference so I'd advise you to get the girls to try both on so they can figure out what they feel more comfortable in.
A lot of females prefer the seat version as it doesn't "threaten" the upper part of the body (while men seem to often prefer the waist (... )) but there is no general rule.
I've struggled a long time to find a harness I'd feel good in (it seemed that even the female harnesses were designed by males!) and I've now adopted the north performer seat harness, which is perfect for me. When it comes to body shapes, Nature does a wonderful job in designing every single of us differently, so there isn't a right answer to your question (I never felt good in "girl's harnesses" (on this regard, they did feel to me like a G-string with a quick release!!!!), whereas a lot of other women did!).
The best thing to do, really, is to go to a retailer with the girls and let them try different models on until they find the one that fits them just right...
Hope this helps.
And be good! ;-P

Hi Ladies,

Tina has been super stoked with the Flying Objects Sapphire Ladies Harness as have most of the girls that wear them over here in the west. We use them in our school and haven't had any complaints about discomfort.

Hope this helps,

speaking from a females point of view;

a seat harness for learning. when bodydragging in a waist the spreader bar tends to dig into the ribs. Once the girls get up and going they may prefer a waist harness. The only downfall towards a seat would be they sometimes cause a rash type thing on the inside top of your legs.

however i agree em take them to a shop and see which harness feels more comfortable.

one thing to remember - make sure the harness that they prefer is the right size. dont buy one that is a little to small or a little to big. sizing is everything, well maybe not everything but it is very important when buying a harness.

i hope this helps baggsy.

pro-limit harness's are great!

Tried a few different brands, guess it realy depends in the end on what your body prefers, but my sister and I have used the seat and waist harness and both were awesome!

Learning in seat, progress to waist. In the end it depends on what you prefer... have 2 seat harness's if you want to buy any....

hey baggsy,

Cool to hear you have a couple of girls that are keen on learning.

IMHO i hated the girls gear, i rode with a girls seat when i was learning but i got over it super fast (way to annoying).
I change to girls waist, that was fine.
When i got my north waist harness just over a year ago, i honestly couldn't tell any difference between a girls or guys.
In fact the north waist harness was the best out of any.
I think the whole girls V's guys thing is a myth just go with what feels good in the shop.

Cheers Angie

Yep I agree with Angie. Go with what feels best. The only other info I would give is that a seat a bit easier for learning - in my opinion, because it slides up less (will still be very uncomfortable though when learning, there's not much getting round this when the kite is high all the time). Also, it gives a lower pivot point, and therefore is slightly easier to take power, if you're not used to it. I can ride really over powered on my seat harness, but less on the waist harness. I'm using the waist harness more and more now in waves, (still use the seat most of the time) but I think for learning the seat is better.

The one I have is an older Dakine women's harness - it fell apart a couple of times but I have kept sewing it back together because it is super comfy. I agree that I think there is a difference between women's and men's seat harnesses (generally lower back support) but less difference in the waist harness (I use a men's Dakine waist harness).

Basically, a waist harness requires more muscles in the lower belly area - it's harder work, so I think a seat is easier to begin with.
