G'day,

I am new to the sport of kitesurfing, and yesterday was my first experiences with a "real" kite! I have just purchased some 2nd hand gear to get into the sport, and took it down to Merriks Beach (Vic) to fly on the open beach, with 7-10 knots onshore. Anyways i set her up (Cabrinha 2004 Co2 12m) and got my GF to launch it and away i went.

Now since i have been flying kites (over 10 years) of all shapes and sizes in all types of wind strengths, i was amazed at how this LEI could just "PULL"!!!!! I was instantly hooked, in only 7-10 knots, i couldnt believe it!!!

the kite went up a few more times, and after 5 minutes i had the hang of flying it, and was loving every moment. An hour later my GF got bored of watching me, so i packed up and went home........but buzzing like a kid in a toy shop for hours after!

All i can say is bring on the board and water, as this is going to be one hella fun sport! Oh and RECON is awsome, i tried it out in a 10knot gust as it started to lift and drag me up the beach...pure de-power! and a gentle fall to the ground.

catch yas..

Sheppo,

Please Please don't fly on a beach.

Get on the water and do some body dragging to learn the kite.

Good to hear you love the sport though.

p.s I hope you have had lessons (even with 10 years plus flying experience) No offence meant

Check out all the RAGE
Go fly a Windwing

I agree with you Hurrah,
Wait till you fly it in some real wind SHEPPO3930
Everyone pays their dues as some stage, its all part of the learning process. Some people just react better than others when their time comes.
My advice is to get in the water asap after launching and dont get out till you ready to come in. That way you minimize the chance of gettin lofted onto hard sand or worse. Take your time and go slow at first, remember theres plenty of time, & plenty of other days to kite.
Accidents happen when people rush.

the only reason i didnt get into the water and body drag was i didnt have my wetsuit in the car it was the one thing i forgot in the mad rush to get down to the beach.

please dont think i am some idiot who has gone and bought gear and trying it myself with no clue!!......i go with a group of ppl who kiteboard, and they are helping me out, and they dont let me go out when it's the wrong conditions (like wednesday arvo[}:)])

lessons are a luxury i dont have, considering my time off uni, work, and other comitments, not to mention the weather and the distance i gotta travel just to get to the closest kite school....also, my friend who just started out said is first 2 lessons were a joke, and he learnt nothin but how to fly a 3m kite.

if i was going to get lessons i'd get them from a bloke who offered his time as he lives locally (works in the store i got my gear from) and respects my position and lack of time for lessons, so he said he'd just come with me next time i go out and teach me what i dont know/having trouble with.

once again, please dont think i am some ignorent person thinkin i am "king dick" and can do anything, because i know the wind's power and the dangers associated with it, and i am being as careful as i can, and so are the ppl teaching me.

no wind this arvo
