Hello all, and a big up to the kiteboarders/surfers and (wakekiters) out there. I'm newish to kiting (my preferred phrase) and am getting to the stage where air and moves are temptimg me as going for a cruise just doesn't cut it. What is the preferred first move to go for? ALso any advice re: basic moves dvd is appreciated. Cheers

There is a term in Flying.

"Any landing you walk away from is a good landing"

You can translate that into kitespeak.

Also,
" the air above you is like the runway behind you. Useless."

Or, "there are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots."

great advice guy's what actually was it I cant tell

Anyways... there's plenty of videos out there...

  • kiteboarding 101 & 201
  • boost
  • many more...

The first move's are jumps which will naturally progress into spins as your weight shifts during your jump. At first this will catch you out and you'll probably crash ...

Just focus on jumping and getting the timing down. It will all flow from there...

Cheers -

I plan to at least be walking or limping away from most moves (delibarate or otherwise). I'm young so can be bold - I'll retire when old. This then lead on to the beers when I might watch that fatsands dvd - looks excellent.

Also - any ideas regarding next board? I've currently got a twin tip spoiler 150cm (has done me great for my firstyear learning) then a 6foot6 directional for light wind play. Now I want something light and grippy and shorter than my other board. I'm not fussed that it would be 2006/5 but just good.

Kiteboarding Progression is about 10 times better than Kiteboarding 101, and after its lame showing I didn't bother look at 201.

What size are you? Xelerator (here in South Africa) make a 128x42 x-style loosely based around riding in waves, but it's light and grippy and really fun to ride in all sorts of conditions. It might be the right length to complement your 150 nicely. Probably can't get it in oz, but something similar? I was dubious when I got on it but after a couple of tacks out and back in the surf its owner couldn't get me off it for the rest of the day. I'm a size XXL though, so I soon after purchased the 138cm version, the 128 just a little short to justify the expense. I'll be borrowing it again though.
