Finally managed to get my gear finalized and I'm ready for my first session with boots. A little bit anxious as I hardly even ride a twinny let alone with boots.. And I've never actually watched anyone put them on whilst flying their kite.

So what's the go..Is it difficult to get them on, get going etc? Any tips from boot guys out there? I imagine wetting them first would help slip in quickly.. My boots are 2011 ronix cells

Loosen them up first time as much as possible. If the wind is direct onshore, you won't have much time to tighten them so just get your feet in and start riding, then stop and tighten when you have the time. It's not that hard getting them on.

First time you ride with them, you'll probably hate and wonder whether you made a mistake. You need to ride them for a week or two.

Can't tell if trolling...

But, how about putting them on without a kite first ;) maybe that will give you some idea of what it will be like. If you have a stopper ball it will help you fly your kite whilst putting them on.

If you have the Cells in the right size it will be easy, you wont need water. However some 2011 Cells came with top laces too short so the boots couldn't open up far enough to easily get your foot in. If this is the case, put longer laces in the top.

My personal advice though is that if you don't ride twinny often stick to straps (maybe with heel bungy) because boots wont really help you much.

If you are used to straps, you probably need about a month to get boots dialed in. Not just the feeling but also learning how to fall properly.

I just got some boots, loving the feeling, the whiplash will get better soon!

I had all the same fears as yourself, as for putting the boots on get down the chemist and buy some water based lube, don't explain just smile and if she's hot give her a wink.

The one thing I have noticed is don't bury the nose at all, the bindings turn your board into a submarine (WHIPLASH).

Other than that i find you can ride harder, faster and smoother (if you use lube)

No trolling here. Up to a few weeks ago hadn't ridden my twinny for over 2 years (just ridden strapless sb in the waves) but have just moved near the pond so decided to add something new to kiting for me.

Kinda needed something new so will be riding alot more freestyle along with the waves. No dramas riding twinny with straps and have been back on it the last week or so and confidence is back. Had ankle surgery a year and a half ago (which I am only just fully recovering from) and am looking for more support.. Hence the boots

Was just a tad apprehensive about the change/starting out.. but am dedicated to the migration

Cheers

Sounds good then!

If you are talking about "the pond" aka safety, then you shouldn't have much trouble flying your kite and putting your boots on there, the wind is steady as can be!

My biggest tip is to LET GO... people (strap kiters) seem to have this crazy obsession of holding on till shear death, looping out of their straps and bouncing along on their guts, ending up miles from their board etc. This is probably the worst thing you could do in boots and you will get seriously injured if you try this.
If a trick is going bad (i.e. nosedive, over rotate, under rotate) just let go and it will be a lot less painful.

And default apparently you have devolved as well, because apparently riding down the line on a surfboard is a progression from riding a TT especially with boots. Welcome back to the monkey crew. Oooooo eeeeee oooooo eeeee look at me I can ride a wave with a surfboard how advanced am I !!
