I'm keen to get into waveriding with one of my surfboards. I've had a few goes without straps (pain in the arse)and want to convert one of my older boards into a kiteboard. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips/advice on how to fit footstraps, which ones are best etc. I'm assuming you don't just drill your screws straight into the board and that there has to be some sort of casing glued in. Anyone know how???

Cheers

hey matt - just do what i did and screw those plastic plaster wall-hanging screws in!! Cut the ends off a bit so they don't go right through the deck, screw them in right next to (but not through) the stringer, add some garden hose covered in airconditioning pipe insulation for straps, screw it all together with some stainless screws, and BAM!! in the time it takes to drink 2 stubbies (and about the same cost) you got a wave riding machine!!

i was on mine the other day before my little run-in with the broken bottle and it was going unreal...c'mon man, let me butcher, sorry, modify - your board for you!! i got nothing better to do for the next 2 weeks...not allowed to walk let alone kite!!

dont do it... tiding strapless is much better for your wave riding... I dont know many good wave riders here in perth that use straps. I too once went that way and found all the draw backs from straps. After some much needed advice I ditched the straps and never looked back. Learning to get going only takes one session, then your nailing it. The freedom that strapless provides is endless and helps the rest of your riding...

Easy as piss. Router some channels into your board where you want the straps, cut some strips of plastic, glue the plastic in with some resin and filler. Then cover with some glass and your ready to go. Just be careful where you put your straps, they should be much further forward than where you place your feet surfing. Check some production boards out with footstraps to find out where to puit them. Piss easy. JUST DON'T PUT THEM TOO FAR BACK.

Or just ride strapless - not very easy!

Nathan - I'll keep it in the car so when I catch up with you next it's all yours (I think you can start with my old 6'6" just in case you butcher it). By the way do your retro fittings come with a warranty? You should post some pics of your foot on the web. Might scare of some kiters and keep the beach less crowded this summer.

See Ya

Cheers for the other tips. I'll try them if lovey f@#!ks up.
