Try going Qunatas we go from Sydney to Perth and back with a truck load of windsurfing gear every year and my kite gear.

Just thought I'd do a follow up to this post incase anyone does a search about flying with kit.

I had no problems taking a kit with Virgin Blue. Everything was in a huge wheelie bag (180cm x 50cm x 24cm). The only thing you have to watch for is that the weight of any single item can't be more than 32kg, and this was something they were very strict on.

Other than that very easy, nothing extra to pay as all our luggage came in at just over the 40kg limit (2 people x 20kg).

Europe is a bit of a dodgy one. I think that the maximum is like 20 kg per person, which is ****ty! If your coming via the Americas its 64 kg maximum per person. Ive never had probs with qantas, i check in upto 64 kg on domestic flights btw perth and the east coast and have never had probs. My equipment bag is only 130cm long tho.
