Hi Team,

I have just picked up my Flysurfer Speed 10m. I live in Melbourne and was wondering if there are any other people out there with the same kite. Looking for a kiting buddy to learn the tips to flying this kite. Have some experience with my 12m Switchblade, probably 'Intermediate' level.

Thanks Heaps

Hey!
A few tips.

Check www.foils.nl/phpbb2/ for detailed info. There have been detailed kite nerd discussions for the past year about all aspects of the Speed.

As you get up towards 20 knots you're going to need to edge hard to kill power in the kite, to force it towards the edge. Like your bow it likes to fly fast, I usually have the trimmer in just a bit. Try not to crash leading edge straight down. When relaunching downwind you can slow the kite down by sheeting in or powering up. It takes a different technique when jumping, again, check foilzone. Also look at the ways described to pack and unpack the kite, follow a few simple rules and you shouldn't get tangles. Remember to do up the zips. Clean the pulleys every few sessions.

Take it easy to start with, I find 15 knots average about ideal. In light wind if you can build up a bit of speed, apparent wind, you should find a bit more power.

Have fun! Hope you get some decent wind!

Thanks Tobes,

I notice you are using the 'backup' URL.

It does have some good info. Also reading the manual with the kite is pretty helpful.

Some of the concepts/techniques are not what I would naturally think of doing such as powering up (sheeting/over sheeting in) whilst launching downwind. With the Switchblade, you certainly depower whilst launching downwind.

I believe I am going to enjoy this kite once I get the hang of it.

Heading up to Port Douglas in Sept/Oct for a holiday. Hoping to get a number of sessions on the water here in Melbourne before heading to unfamiliar territory.

I have a Speed 13 and I am happy to share my experiences.

However, I have only had the Speed for 6 months and have only kited for 18 months so my tips will be limited.

Hi Ice, 6 months is more than my 2 weeks. I am mainly spending some time on the beach getting used to the kite, maybe getting some jumps in. I am near Mordialloc, where abouts are you?

I live in Northcote so I kite anywhere on the Bay. In fact - I am thinking of kiting at Frankston tomorrow afternoon - weather permitting.
