Friends,

I currently have a single kite quiver (9m crossbow). I can get going on it (have fun, jump, small tricks etc) from around 15 knots and I can still hold it down in just over 30 knots, although it is less fun after the wind goes above 25 knots as I have to run the kite well depowered. I have used this bow now for 18 months and I LOVE it.

However, recently I tested an 07 Fuel, and I was blown away. This is not a review of Fuels so I won't go into detail, but I have made the decision to switch.

So my question for all the Fuel riders out there is this: What Fuel quiver should I aim for? Here are the requirements:

Wind: I ride all over the place, but 95% of riding is in wind that ranges from 15 to 30 knots, while 80% of riding is in wind that is from 18 to 22 knots (i.e. that is the sweet spot I ride in most).
Locations: I ride a variety of locations that include flat water and waves.
Board: I ride the latest 122 FLX, but will likely go to a 128 FLX.
Weight: I am 56kg.
Level: Confident rider, spins, rolls, transitions, grabs, some board offs. Have been doing some kite loops and attempting unhooked (not good on the bow). Looking to get more into bigger kite loops and unhooked maneuvers.

I guess I want to be able to cover the 15-30 knot range, but have a kite that is in the sweet spot for me in 18-22. Cost is obviously a factor for me! Should I go with a 7+11 quiver? Or do I need 7+9+11? Should I start with a single 9 and add the others later? Would it be cheaper for me to buy the whole lot in one go? Could I get away with a single bar/lines for my whole quiver? Is the 07 that much better than the 06 or could I go with the 06 kites and save a lot of coin? I like the 07 bar setup more - could I go with 06 kites and an 07 bar/lines set?

Does anyone have an 07 quiver that they want to sell to me?

Long post I know, but any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Justin

Hey Justin,

I just got on 07 Fuels and had some time on the 06's before these arrived,

7 + 11 In My Opinion will serve you nicely, I really like my 7mtr Fuel (07) its the bomb and for a 7 has an amazing wind range,

Only issue is you will probably want the larger bar (maybe not) for the 11 but is a sweet kite and I can use it with my surf board in sub 15 knts, what spins me is in the real light stuff they almost never stall/luff they are so stable and have that constant pull they are well known for.

Given your weight I think you will get the most out of these two sizes

IMHO 7 + 11 is what i'd do but if ur riding in 18-22 most of the time then the 9m might be the go, ah stuff it, get a 7m, 9m & 11m

Hey thanks for the responses guys - I like the idea of 7+11 however I also like the idea that a 9 will suit my normal sweet spot. I think I will go with 7+9 with a single bar, and then if the 9 doesn't have enough low end on the lighter days I will consider an 11.

Anyone selling these second hand yet?

I reckon that you will be left wanting on a bunch lighter wind days. I'd second the 7-11 vote unless you were planning on riding a surf board.

56kg guys, come on.

9 should start at 15knots, even a little less.

i recon 7-11, dont worry about spending cash on a 9, the 7 and 11 will overlap anyway

There are no bad fuels.

Get 06 or even 05 then you can buy 3 kites unless your rolling in it!

I ride 05 11 and 15 and would buy a 7

for you I say 7 and 11 m

my fuels still have plenty of depower so 4m increments works better than 2m

OK so assuming I go for 7+11, which one would I use in my regular 18-22 knot seabreeze?

Fuels rule. I am still on my 05's (11m, 15m and 04' 19m) they are great kites. I saw Len10 on his 07' 7m out at St Kilda on Sunday, it was 25 knots and he was fully lit I would say he would tip the scales at about 70kg as well, he is built like Arnie.

Hey Dan OK, on the bottom of your 05' bar is there a grommet or nothing, as I just changed my chicken loop for a lock and load as it was wearing, but cant remember if there was a grommet in there, if there was i will have to replace it.

Cheers

Hope this helps!

Hey just had a look at the smaller bar, it doesnt have the metal rope guard thing. It just has the grommet on one side and bare aluminium on the inside of the other
