Anyone up for the next full moon night kite? Did it in St Lucia in the Caribbean and got some excellent fotos. Set up some flame torches and did jumps over them. Good idea to put glow sticks on your board though. Need someone with good photographic skills to capture it all. Maybe Pt walter if the easterly is howling.

You want to be careful mentioning that around here, there is a fun policeman who takes a dim view of night kiting and will rip off your head and **** down your neck if you so much as think about night kiting.

It's good though isn't it .

what rules would you be breaking by kiting at night?

are sail boats allowed to sail in the dark?

or was that a joke?

No seriously, a certain forum member who shall remain nameless (Sandgroper) tried to cut me to shreds when I suggested the same about a year ago. I daresay if you do a search you can find the two threads in question. I would use 'condemn' and 'night kiting' as search terms...

speaking of sun shining out of arses, maybe a well placed prism could provide the red and green navi lights.

sort of rules out a seat harness

Wow, that Sandgroper shouldn't be kiting, it sounds a bit dangerous for him. Maybe lawn bowls would be more appropriate. I have night surfed a few times in a full moon and it is nearly as bright as a cloudy day.

Have a blast and let us know how it goes... sounds like a good idea with the correct lights though and only fair to others sharing the water with you. Hmmm, does that mean I should wear lights next time I surf at night... I would feel like I was just baiting for sharks, might get one of those shark repellents!

That was a classic era in Seabreeze history - provided me with much reading pleasure. Who could forget the night kiting dilemma. It's up there with Eric.

Hey,

I know I am only new to the sport of Kitesurfing. BUT I just had to have my say on this topic.

Is this Sandgroper Or should I say sandWANKER have any balls.

For gods sake, how does he think sports (extreme sports) evolve. It is from taking calculated risks and creating NEW ideas and tricks etc within your sport.

Night Skydiving for instance "Awesome" so why should we stop chalengeing ourselves because 1 person, maybe even several think its Tooooo dangerous.

Like I said I am only new to the sport but I have ALREADY planned on doing Night Kiting when I believe I have enough experience to confidently tackle the idea. So Yea, if that puts me down as a Kook in his book then Stiff **.

Of course you do whatever you have to so you and others stay safe. Does he think we're all bums that don't have any brains.

I can name numerous kiters and Sailboarders that are:
Doctors, Lawyers,Firies, Accountants etc. Ok Accountants might have to write slowly for you guys. Sorry only joking

I say "GO FOR IT" you have my support.

Don't just live on the edge "Jump off it"

Where is that? I went at Safety Bay just north of Penguin Island. I'm pretty sure I covered all the details in the first thread I quoted above.

Yeah mate, shoalwater goes from the sand bar to penguin island around to point peron. Has to be one of the best stretches along the WA coast.

I came looking for you at safety bay that night for a beer after, you know where kitejam was. The next day I read you where around at shoalwater near the pier which is used for the ferry.

Ahh, right. Gotcha now. That's called the yacht club where kitejam was isn't it?

Anyway.... I met Sandgroper one day kiting down at Mandurah. From his posts I figured he was a moral to show up that particular time and the one other person who did show up was on his particular type of kite, so when we rigged up I asked 'Sandgroper?'

'Yeah, how did you know?'

'Oh you know, the kite, the fact you said you were coming here. I'm Pat'

'Pat who?'

'Pat of the Night Kiting, GreenPat'

His face dropped like Jedd Clampett's dog. Out of respect for a fellow human being I won't relate any more of the afternoon, you can use your imaginations. Knowing you lot, you'll all be way off, but probably come up with some amusing crap .

Ok this is silly.
If you wanna go kiting at night go for it. I doubt you will hit a boat as boats generally dont go where people kite.

If there is a boat in the area (the only real obsticle we need to watch out for) they will have their nav lights on. So im sure the water police arnt going to come and arrest you.. Just dont drown or somethign stupid or it will make everyone look dumb.

So i think if everyone wears a few glowsticks on themselves ,board, and kite would be adequete enough for other kiters to figure out where you are.

Too many fun police in this forum. Just be very careful when you do it

last time we went night kiting on the Northern beaches it rocked! I taped a great flashing techno rubber duck to the handle of my board and he flashed away all night long! if you find a spot close-ish to lights on the land you'll be ok as you can see your kite on the tack where its closer to shore. Also it gets really dark when the moon is on its way up and then gets MUCH lighter when its high in the sky but then the wind tends to drop.

I did try putting a few of those freebe LED torches (tiny ones) inside the LE to make it glow completely, kinda works and would work well with the thin glow sticks. a glowing LE in the dark looks great!

i thought a boat under 14 foot doesn't need nav lights , only one white light. so a virgina miner lamp on the head might do the trick.

Will we hear from him again

Can he be lured into similar conversation a year on

Does he go by another alias these days

Come on sandgroper, come out come out wherever you are.
